Hi everyone,
I'm another Ben from Perth, great to be on the forum.
So, after six or so years since my last, I've now found myself back in the seat of a sierra (my first 4bie love) and it feels so right!! This one is completely stock, 93 SJ70 219K on the clock.
I've been trolling the forums and I know it gets asked alot but I thought I'd try for some advice specific to my questions.
I don't want to make it into a psycho comp car or anything, just capable on and offroad. My dream is to make it into a novelty tourer (don't laugh). I want to make a lightweight trailer that I can ditch at camping spots so I have a sweet little agile beast to get around the sand tracks and such.
So, I need to get it up to highway speeds/towing standard (as much as possible). Which engine option do you think I should go for? (do up 1.3, put head on 1.6 block, 1.6efi?). I was dreaming of putting a Rocky/VW diesel in but sounds like too much trouble.
What about lift? What is the BEST out there? I want to fit 31s. Again, not looking for anything crazy. Is the 2" suspension+2"BL the go? Where does the shackle lift fit in there? Any ideas on brands etc?
Sorry if this is overdone but I'd really appreciate your ideas on anything you know that would make it into an awesome touring rig. Cheers, Ben

lift and big tyres are not too good for hwy speeds a sierra has the aerodynamics of a besser block anyway. i am using 215/75/15's and have cruised on 100 with a 1.3 but 90 is better i will be touring again next year with the same set up

My Sierra ran 31's and towed my camper off road very well. I had gearing to suit the bigger tyres, though. Tourer, keep it simple so as to be reliable.
