Does anyone know where to buy waffle boards cheap? They are plastic/fibrelass not the metal versions. http://www.okoffroad.com/stuff-waffleboards.htm  I want to buy some but don't want to pay the coupla hundred for MaxTracks and the flexible rubber versions eg Bushranger don't appear to be very effective. Certainly wouldnt support a vehicles weight like those ones appear to, but if it is for recovery only I use an old cut down bread crate (edges cut off and sliced into 2) that has worked wonders the few times I've used it. |

We have that stuff at work as flooring in acidic evnvironments, it's fibreglas reinforced plastic. I saw a bog stock old rodeo get surprisngly far on a local trip with the aide of these. |

If you're not too worried about weight, maybe look at some steel webforge offcuts from a steel shop - it is fairly heavy though but very strong. Webforge also make aluminium and the FRP grating as well. http://www.webforge.com.au/ |

I been looking into this, azlong with other choices. The added ability to carry weight could be useful for bridging stuff. Mt brother found something similar on a hard garbage near a building site. He uses it as a recovery aid for his delica. So maybe building supplies worth looking into. |

I've got 2 milk crates cut into individual panels (with an angle grinder, took 5 mins) and the panels cable tied together to form 2 foldable tracks. I've never had to use them but I imagine they'd work okay. As for something a bit stronger you can use as a bridge, I'm over building the tray sides on the LJ so they can be used as such.

There is also TRED available a lot cheaper, but still Aus made. |

when i did a lot of sand driving i used to just carry some carpet offcuts with me... worked MANY times to get me out, and they took up next to no space in the back... they worked best with the carpet side in the sand, the tyres gripped the back of the carpet brilliantly. |

We used these to get out of Quicksand on Tassie's west coast. Would have been stuffed without it. I think he got it from an industrial supplies place. |

Another useful tip is carry a couple of bags of kitty litter. An old Moke Club trick. Very good for making extra greasy clay tracks a bit drier and grittier where you need it. I''l be carrying two bags and a couple of carpet lengths until money permits otherwise |

I 'found' a few bread crates that I've cut up and joined together. Much better then milk crates. They flex a lot so can't be used as bridging ladders but should be OK for traction. Have yet to test them in anger though. |

The stuff my bro got free is actually plastic drain type covers, so there may be car strength grating available |
