Does your zook have front drum brakes?
In the sense of improved braking performance, brake pads are cheaper than drums and easier to change. Yes it is wearth it.

But if you keep them and do drive though mud make sure you open them up and clean them out whenever you do and avoid crashing into Toyota Celicas. And houses. |

However, the semifloat axle drum brake kits I've seen leave some of the wheel bearing exposed, which seems to drastically reduce bearing life, so it's a double edged sword. I'm disc all round and would NEVER go back to rear drums, but they aren't without their complications, least of which is the loss of the wheel mounted handbrake, (depending on the kit/calipers used) chassis clearance, brake balance and pad choice/life are all issues to be resolved. I fitted the Ben T disc conversion to my 92 Vit recently. The best thing I ever did as far as brakes go. I now have rear brakes even after a serious day in the mud!! |

+2 I haven't driven in mud but the Ben T disc kit feels like it has a lot more stopping power on the road than the drums. I have tested the brakes on dirt roads and didn't find any problems with the rear locking up first.
