Post subject:  Brake caliper & pad grease

Hiya all,

I'm servicing my wife's Mirage brakes and am curious as to what type/brand of grease is recommended for the brake caliper pin and the back of the pad? On the back of the old pad there's copper grease but the caliper pin is looking rather dry.

In my GV there's no requirement for grease on either the pin or pad so am not sure what to use.

Thanks,
Ben

All caliper pins need grease. I usually use a moly grease

I use Permatex Ultra Disc Brake Caliper Lube synthetic lube on the slide pins

and Permatex Disc Brake Quiet on the back of the pads

The disc brake quiet is also available in a two pouch blister pack that's enough to do both calipers if you don't want to buy a can.

I was about to buy the green permatex brake lube but I've read a few reviews about it swelling some rubbers in contact with the caliper pin. Mostly with Mitsu's and Toyotas. I was going to try the CRC equivalent as there's less reported problems.

Has anyone used the CRC products with success?

Was going to use copper grease on the rear of the pads.

Let's just say in five years I've had no problems - package says it's safe for use on rubber.
