Post subject:  Removing Engine from Vitara

Hi Guys,

I am having some trouble getting my engine out of my Vitara. I have managed to seperate the gearbox and engine about 1cm, but it won't seperate any further than that. Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong?

Manifolds are both off, starter motor has also been removed and all bolts removed that need to be, just can't get it to move anymore than the 1cm.

Thanks

Drew

Is the engine leaning back putting the transmission input shaft in a bind? I know in the past I have jacked up the rear of the engine to keep it from leaning back and binding up on the transmission shaft.

It also helps to keep the motor mounts from twisting too far and being damaged when the transmission is gone, and the engine wants to lean back.

manual or auto?

What skyman said, jack under the front of the box to support it and get a bit of wiggle room

Thanks. It ended up being the little mud guard to protect the flywheel etc at the bottom. Didn't realise it was there.

Thanks

I forgot about that little doohickey, mine has been gone for ages, and I don't do mud.. so I've never had a problem.
