hi guys :) i currently have a v6 wt vitara, and am still contemplating swapping to a gv, except no one wants to buy my vitara : ( Ive got a set of 5.12 diffs that i had in it, (front steel) and was running 31s which was perfect gearing, if i put 5.12s in a gv (series 2, 2002ish 2.5 litre) will it be perfect for 31s? or is the gearing different? also will it be a similar amount of work to fit 31s under a gv as on my wt vitara? or way more?

I just want to upgrade because im going to be going up north in a while and wpouldnt mind a bit more power and comfort, plus the vit tends to wander around a bit.

thanks guys

Depending on what GV you get as to what ratio it has to start with.
LWB
V6 manual.........4.3
V6 auto.............4.8
4cly manual.......4.8
4Cly Auto..........5.12

SWB im not sure about

I have a V6 manual with 4.8 diffs. Its just about perfect for the 245/75/16 (30.6) tyres
In a V6 auto 5.12 would be abouot right.....Not sure the 4cly models would have the power to run 31's on the HWY.

thanks for the reply, yeh i'd be after a v6 manual lwb one, so itd be 4.3, whereas my car standard was 4.6... so what is that like 6 percent different or something, prob still be ok for 31s in a gv with 5.12s (i only would bother with the swap if i can use this stuff ive already got) so what about the guard work, i got 31s on my vit to fit without too much trouble just a bit of a beat down with a hammer and a little trimming. reckon itd be the same with a gv?

ps anyone got any pics of a gv with 31s on it?

Search for Mugwui's build thread on here mate, otherwise I've got a few photos of 235/85/16s on my very much unfinished project (link in sig).

It a fair amount of work to put 31's on a GV, but if you do the 5.12's are perfect.
I've got a V6 Manual with 5.12's & 31's and it works well.
Only downfall is that it will tend to twist axels under load.
