sounds like a dog panting, more audible from half way in the vid.
I can't pinpoint it other than it coming from the engine. At first, from in the car it sounded like the snorkel sucking air, but then i listened carefully and it wasnt coming from the snorkel head.
if i rev from idle to say 1200rpm the "panting" increases with revs, but goes away once the revs increase. not sure if its being drowned out by engine noise though.
Engine has new oil, new filters (air and oil) and new plugs, and its got about 15,000km on it since its rebuild.
stockman - thats just the injectors (the ticking sound) - its the rasping / breathing kinda sound you can hear behind the ticking...
red89 - i was wondering about belt noise, but i've never heard a belt make a noise like this before?! lol - i'll give it all a squirt and see what happens.
definitely appears to be around the timing cover area... screwdriver trick doesnt seem to be helping me isolate it =/
My Sierra did that. Timing belt was hitting the cover, due to worn out/poorly fitted grommets, Move the timing cover, see if it stops or worsens. Don't stick hands in moving motor bits
Replaced the timing cover and put new seals in (crank and cam) and no difference - the old cover was warped and had been "self clearanced" but the noise persisted... turns out it was the water pump! glad i got it sorted out before it failed on me. phew.
