I wanna get reduction gears for my sierra I still won't to keep my stock axle gearing.just won't to know what's the best ratio for me.i do a lot of 4wding and also use it as a daily car to get around in. |

What size tyre do you plan to run, what gearbox do you have, what current diff gears do you have, what model of sierra is it and what motor are you running? |

30 inch tyres 1.3l engine.standard gearbox it's a 1990.dont know what diff gears I'm running sorry |

For 30 inch tyres i would say 4.9 or 5.14 at most and if you choose to go 31's the 5.14 will still do fine |

Im leaning towards 4.9s just because of the amount of highway kms i do. Depends if your just doing suburbs and 4wding id go with the 5.14s imo? |

no they won't give you "more" power but will give you more gear reduction giving you back the "lost" power from larger tyres. |

I daily drive on stock tyres with 6.5 gearing and a GTi motor which loves to rev even more than the stock 1.3L. After doing so I will always suggest more gearing is better, so if staying with 30's I would suggest the 5.14 transfer gears if not higher again, depending on the amount of highway km's you travel. |

My gears gave me 23hp. Not wrong at all. You can't get more power than what you started with (ie, what an engine is capable of providing) by changing gearing of the vehicle. What you can do is regain what you have lost by messing with the original design by way of larger diameter wheels. By readjusting the gearing to suit the new treads, you shift the rev to road speed/rolling diameter ratio back to match the original design, or what suits your driving style/vehicle setup. Otherwise it would be like saying... "I removed the back seats, the spare and half the guards and I got more power". Not possible. All you did was make the power you have be used more efficiently, or as mentiond just 'more usable'. Which is a good thing to do. |

I have the 5.14's on 30's in a stocko '90 WT, and the gearing is as per stock... still struggles to keep 5th gear on the hills, so i wouldn't reccoment 4.9's for highway work unless you live somewhere very flat |

i run 5.14's and 31s on my sierra, but i've got a 1.6L EFI engine... IMO if you're keeping the 1.3 and going 31s you should get 6.5s - its only a few percent lower in high range but that few percent would be worth its weight in gold up a hill. |

I think the choice of 5.14's or 6.5's should be made solely on your desired low range ratios. |

I honestly think the more gearing the better in high range for these little motors. Like I said, 6.5's and stock tyres and my zook is better to drive than ever on road, I wouldn't drive for hours at highway speeds though. |

Yeah and there's the difference. I'm happy to sacrifice doing 110 on the freeway and just sit on 80-90. Others may not. |
