Post subject:  spacers or better off set wheels

Hi all,

I have a 09 gv3 and for my next mod i want to get a wider stance, so was wanting everyones thoughts on spacers or better of set steel wheels? I currently have genuine suzuki mags on it with the usual bush marks and I know there worth a bit (or was). I dont have a problem selling them up to get the steelies just after thoughts....

Cheers, Brock

Either is ok, except that spacers are illegal.

If you can get steel wheels to the GV with a better offset that would be the better option. GV's have an issue with firmer for some reason but I'm not sure why it may be the callipers. Spacers are ok offroad, but you need to continually check the inner and outer wheel nuts.

I think I'd avoid either with a current GV. Moving rim offset outwards increases leverage on the suspension which will play havoc with alignment. I've followed enough IRS Pajeros with offset rims to see the effect offset rims have on them - negative camber and toe out. :yuck: - the effect on tyre wear must be alarming.

I think I'd need a very good reason to try either with an IRS car.

Steve.

The reasoning behind it is on other forums (not saying its true) a guy has a gv that had 245/75 16 tyres which I do and then he got long travel struts for it and the difference in strut thickness meant it was rubbing on the wheel? Again, dont know if its true just didnt want to take the chance
