just wondering if there is a way to get the rear housing part of this gearbox to adapt to a local vitara box? Peeps would only need this part to make a neat conversion on their sierra and G series Jimnys. I would prefer to mod the gearshifter forward like Fatzook has done Attachment: suzuki g16 gearbox.JPG Attachment: suzuki g16 gearbox3.JPG

Get onto Sean at Lowrange, he is now running Hawk Strictly Suzuki and will be able to track those bits down. |

I want to do this job all in one go and prefer it over the conversions done in OZ below - looks like the 4 x 2 housing is a straight fit over the first pic ![]() This is the usual conversion before tailshaft ![]() just need to mod shiter forward like in 3rd pic but with higher pivot for short shift

That's a lot of stuffing around for a what's essentially a cosmetic item though, don't you think? Steve. |

i'm not really seeing the reduction in size (anywhere it could matter) The 2WD box is as wide as the 4WD box at the same point. It's slightly wider further back, but of you don't use the cover plate as shown on Fatzook's car, there's no reason the material in the adapter below the shifter couldn't be cut away. Steve. |

I'd wager the output shaft is the same length on both boxes, so the only possible gain is a reduction in girth at the rear-most point of the assembly, and aesthetics. Definately not worth the hassle IMO. |

No dice. They were replaced with 12.9 countersunk screws some time ago |

Its for a previously 988cc late 60s 593kg datsun so it really helps my tunnel needs!!! |

Why not use a G13 gearbox and an adapter plate - the plate is going to be much easier to get hold of than the G16 2WD parts. What's the bet the shift rails have to be swapped or something else daft like that making it a total PITA to swap? Steve. |

If it is strength you are after don't waste your time with a G13 gearbox. |

Sierra boxes are with a 1ltr only and only just.JB and FZook any idea if the Jimny boxes are related internally to the Vitara box or are they weaker? The Jimny boxes seem to withstand little abuse Ill let you guys know how I go with the US parts if I can get Sean to help

Jimny and sierra internals are interchangeable. No relation to vitara at all. |

Pardon the ignorance, but what's the point? 2WD for the datto, sure, although I would have thought there were easier options out there. For a Sierra/Jim...? Is it just so you can run the stronger Vit box with a remote transfer? |

I'm quite sure a G13 gearbox would be strong enough for a "593Kg Datusn" - as I assume it's going to be pretty traction limited. I'm not great fan of the Sierra gearbox, but it's horses for courses. Steve. |

What vehicle, what engine, I may have something to assit. datsun 1000 for hillclimbs for something different g16b will be supercharged for 170hp atw, vitara box FTW. H beam rods and full balance will help on the engine side as well as custom mains girdle. |

Actually the g16b has the same one but a 12mm laser cut one would be better with arp studs. |

As an indication OOZUK's turbo G16 pushed out 142.5HP atw after a lot of $$ and on 10PSI boost if I'm correct. Mind you his is in a sierra thus has extra loss associated by running through a transfercase. |

Just what I read: oozuk wrote: It made 142.7HP ATW @10psi
it went really strong on the dyno but matty felt he wanted to take 2deg out of the total timing to be safe for the engine so after the timing map change the final power figure was 136.5HP ATW @10psi |

I prefer massive torque over big hp but hopefully I can afford a second hand Lysholm or an Autorotor when the time comes otherwise itll be a twinscrew Mazda from the wreckers |
