Hi guys,

This is driving me nuts! I've got a '91 SWB Vitara. When the car starts in the mornings it runs rough. When she's warm (after about 5-10 minutes of driving) it goes fine. I had the local mechanic replace the carbie, but it made no difference. Now that I followed it up further, it seems like it's the front cylinder that is missing. I swapped plugs around, but it's still the same.
Would it be the distributor? I sprayed WD40 in it, but no difference. Maybe the HT leads? A dodgy earth somewhere? I'm stumped.
I've looked over the net and haven't found anything yet. Any ideas?

Cheers, Tim.

Have you checked that the auto choke is working?

Have you tried swapping leads around to eliminate them as a cause?

Aha! (Not the 80's band.) I got new plugs and leads and the problem is now fixed. Initially I just swapped the plug and lead on the front cylinder and the problem went away, but I figured I may as well swap them all.

I even went as far as draining and ditching all the fuel before to see if that was the problem. It wasn't ;-)

Thanks for your help.

I'm having the same issues, but I got an EFI version....I'll give the plugs and leads a go. Yet to do a full proper service on the thing..

Hey mate,

$6.50 per HT lead from the local servo. Which, added up, is still half the price of a set from any of the auto shops. Go figure...

Mine runs fine now. Never done a proper service either.
