get a heavy duty as you will be on the clutch alot if u have standard gearing. Ebay, repco, burson, exeedy eagle farm. Big job if you havent done a sierra clutch before. Pita removing gearbox from underneath. Tight fit. |

A clutch on a sierra is mechanics 101. But re-aligning can be a PITA without a tool, and you MUST get your flywheel machined, so organise this with a clutch or brake place BEFORE you pull your car off the road. |

On this subject i'll have to do the clutch on my Coily soon,is it better/easier to take the motor out or drop the gearbox?.Mechanics are talking a grand+ (including cable) so i'll have to do it myself.TIA. |

just drop the gearbox while engine is in the car, only pita is alligning the clutch back up if you havnt got the tool.. yes its easier when the engine is out but takes alot longer to do it this way. |

Gearbox out. Rough proceedure..... Drop oil from gearbox. Remove jack shaft. Remove starter motor. Remove gearbox shifter. Undo wiring to gearbox switches. Remove gearbox mount bolts. Remove bellhousing bolts. Shift or lever the gearbox backwards until it drops a little as the spigot leaves the clutch. Rotate box and shift back until you can get the bellhousing to fall below the motor. Its out. All up with a spare set of hands you should be able to do a clutch in under 6 hrs. $1000 is a fucking joke! EDIT. You may also have to remove the front driveshaft or exhaust. |

Its not too hard, just remember what fatzook said, if you dont rotate the box it wont come out. Wish i read how to do it before i started mine, removed radiator, engine mounts and moved the motor a few inches forward, then exhaust had to come out. |

Thanks for the Info.,i assume you can unbolt flywheel with gearbox out,how critical is the machining bit,everyone says get it done on the Sierra but i have done several clutches over the years,Datsun,Toyota & Holden and never had a problem by just bolting them on to the untouched flywheel. |

For the $15 it costs to get it done, why wouldn't you? Not every clutch destroys the flywheel, but they can create hot spots on it ( depending on the clutch used, drivers use of the clutch etc ), and this WILL effect how the new one works. Its the same principle as brake disks. They can chatter and pulse if the rotors aren't machined at pad change. Its just good practice. |
