Ok so I have been thinking about buying a 1996 lwb vitara so I can take the Missus n kids up the beach and camping. Now what I'm after is some info from u guys on what the pros and cons are. Now I will only be using it for trips to bribie and up to inskip/double island. Won't be doing anything hard just some nice beach cruising. Will still keep the Sierra as the toy. Any info on what problems to look out for and what not wil be appriciated Cheers jae |

well if its only for beach trips there isn't really any cons its a lwb so extra room and fuel injected 1.6 so more power, also power steer and air con. IMHO not really any cons to it if it's only a family car for the beach |

I'd leave it stock if you want a reliable beach camping car. |

The 1.6's are prone to cracked blocks if over heated, so check engine condition, and cooling system well. |

Vits go better with a few Sierra bits fitted. And Sierras go better with Vit bits fitted We are a mongrel lot If you decide on an auto, the auto is very nice, and has a good reputation. But I'd add an extra auto cooler for beach work. |

Chrisover1 is right. Make sure you check radiator pipes, other coolant pipes, for overheating pre before you buy it. Great cars down the beach. If towing, suggest you get new higher/stronger springs. Not so keen on auto, not great for towing imho...takes power. but that may be preference. and I never did have a manual to compare. |

They are ugly, real ugly, if they were not so ugly I would probably have one, they are a good thing if you can put up with what they look like. If you are prepared to put up with ugly for the practical reasons of owning one then you may as well be totally practical and have an auto as well. |
