Earlier tonight I went to start my Vitara and it wouldn't kick over... I tried jumping it and nothing so I Figured it wasn't the battery.... I managed to clutch start it and got home but....

My thoughts are that its the solenoid behind the dizzy not producing a spark... Would this be the best place to start to look or not???

clutch starting? clutch out and using the starter motor to move? pull a lead off and put it against the block to see if its getting spark. you managed to drive home in the end, so not to sure!

sounds like in his description that the motor wouldn't turn over so it sounds more like something wrong with his starter motor. did it make any sounds when you tried to start it like a clicking noise? if it does it again try and tap the start motor with a hammer or something and see if it turns over.

Sorry this should have been in the newbie section to start off with, I thought I put it there.... There was nothing when I turned the key no noise at all.... I was told by a friend that it was a solenoid, and he pointed it out to me....After consulting with my workshop manual he was referring to my ignition coil so I ordered a new one... only to later learn that if I managed to clutch start/roll start it it wouldn'tbe the ignition coil but the starter motor...

Today I purchased a starter motor from the wreckers and will be fitting it tomorrow... Thanks for the help though
