I will be getting a set of mud tyres for the Vitara on the holidays.

Last set of Mud tyres I fitted were Goodyear MTR's 30" 9.5

I have the Calmini 3" lift and the MTR's worked great, no scrubbing, no breakages.

Running on the road, little slow from start and speedo out but 5klms.

I wanted to fit a set of 31" 10.50.

Need some feedback from people who are running 31" on there Vitara's.

Will they shrub out, hit anything on lock and will the extra inch increase chances of breakages?

Also how will it effect the gearing on road?

Cheers,
Dave

Sounds like there will be some scrubbing, anyone have some 31" tyres and rims that I can just test fit?

Yes, yes (how bad depends on offset) and yes.

Accel is that much worse, speedo will be further out, and low range becomes not as low.

All problems have relatively easy fixes, or are liveable. Everything ultimately is fixable, just gotta throw money at it eventually.

Do it.

I've run 2 sets of the original MT/R's & I reckon I'll be getting KM2's as a replacement rather than the new design MT/R

Hello there... if you search "tyres online" into google, i think you'll find a competitive price for the KL71's on there :)

I personally have run 31 x 11.5's Mickey T's Baja Claw (wider than your average 31" tyre) with a very large neg offset and i got a tiny bit of scrubbing on Full Lock under flex. the top end speed is horrible and 5th gear is only usable going down a hill... to be honest if you can deal with driving in 4th you will be fine... i now have 33's (i got free) and will be taking them off for a set of 30 x 10.5's (counting down the days till i can afford them)

i believe that just a 10.5" wide tyre wouldn't scrub. (front or rear) with like a -28 offset rim

Hey mate,
i would run 31's again even tho the gearing is out/slower etc etc, if you can afford reduction gears than i wouldnt be thinking of a smaller size.
yes the extra inch help ahah, i found certain ruts i no longer scrapped on which meant i had less damage and got further down the track....stuck even harder sometimes :D the extra inch wont cause breakages but the addition load from the tires will break things. especially your front diff if it hasnt already been upgraded to a steel housing. i hear people breaking rear axles a lot but i havnt even with a lockrite locker!

yes it will scrub, but thats something that has to be sorted when looking at bigger tires. i have 2" sus and 2" body with -13 rims and had to cut the front edge of the firewall bit. when i bought the 31's they were on a -10 and had very minimal scrubbing at all.

mate thats bull sh*t, i would say 80% of my driving is between 90 and 110kph and therefor use 5th lots. i can happily cruise on 100kph on smallish hills b4 going down to 4th. maybe its a swb thing but i would never say 5th is non-usable. i still have std 5.12 gears as well.

p.s bighorns all the way -cheaper, better looking, better grip = awesomeness...ness...ness

I'm looking at KL71s in 30" for my next set. Just gotta save. Will keep the Toyo AT on the stock rims for round town.
My mate has the Maxxis Bighorns on his new Grand Vitara TD and loves them.

Ok I will be buying a set of Maxxis Bighorns, second choice will be the BF Goodrich Mud-Terrain KM2.

Does anyone have tyre connections or know where I can get a good price on these?

I have been pricing them.

Depending on price will got for 4 or 5 with rims.

Are anyone running Maxxis Bighorns on there daily drivers.

Priced Bighorns for $225 a tyre and $70 a rim.

Was thinking about just buying one more rim and 5 tyres.
