Does anyone in Brissy have a code reader thingy for the computer faults??? Willing to re-imburse in the form of cash or beer for the code read!!!!!!!

I bought a OBD11 blue tooth scan tool & have the "Torque" app on my phone but it wont talk to the computer. Will have a go at the manual read of the codes. Mine is intermittent & some times will be like it's over fuelled & then sometimes it will ping it's fuggen head off. I back off the gas & hit it again it will go away for a while. |

They arent ODBII, even though its that type of plug so none of that stuff works if the check engine lights isnt on, there are no codes |

royce wrote: They arent ODBII, even though its that type of plug so none of that stuff works if the check engine lights isnt on, there are no codes Not quite right - if the check light isn't on, there are no ACTIVE codes - there may be stored codes from faults that have been previously detected and have cleared, for whatever reason - for example - if you disconnect the CTS sensor and switch the ignition on, the ECU will detect it and set a code, if you then reconnect the sensor, the ECU will clear that code, but will store it in memory until the next time the codes are cleared or the battery is disconnected. Stored codes can only be read using a code reader. |

I have one but I have no time to get to you or even look at yours in my driveway for about 3 weeks, if you had piped up a week ago it would of been fine  I dont even know that it works with GV's, works with mine but is iffy with G13BB jimnys google rhinopower, its what I have, rhinoman is the guy that makes them and is on here a bit as well, but for codes doing it the manual way is going to provide as much info as the reader, there is no voodoo black magic in these things |

if you get to stuck i can probly bring a launch scan tool home. but $120 isnt that bad when its probly a 10grand tool . people dont understand that. I deal with trouble codes all day long. |

Here's one such scenario... The vehicle is a '97 V6 Vitara with a history of stalling issues - pull up at an intersection or traffic signal and it may or may not idle, turning the a/c on will prevent it from stalling. It's never set a CEL, and unless there is a CEL the paper clip method doesn't give any details. The IAC valve, which is what controls the idle was replaced, but the problem continued. One afternoon we were fooling around with Rhinoman's software and the Vitara was in for a regular service, so we hooked it up - no active codes, which wasn't surprising since the CEL was off, but there was a stored "open TPS" code - the TPS was intermittent - replaced the TPS, problem solved. The DTC list was in the cheap handbook that I got on EBay. |

I can now create config files for any ECU that has the diagnostic link on pin 9, all I need is the model and the ECU ID number from Rhinoview. I'm currently completing the mapping of all known IDs. |

I am well aware of how well they work and what it does, its why I bought one, but you've mentioned one occurrence of a stored code and no diagnostic work done, youve jsut chucked some parts at it and got lucky, like a lot of mechanics do these days. I'll counter with a G13BB engine with the CEL coming on intermittently, and the limp mode causing power loss and making it hard to drive. No codes retrieved manually or with Rhinoview (it said it cant on that model ECU) and all the live data looked as good as it could be. Problem was garbage in the vacuum hose to the MAP sensor, clean it out and good as gold. Thinking you can plug a thingy in and get a magic answer to all your problems isn't a substitute for sound diagnostics, its only a part of it. |

The MY2000 model GVs that we got here use the diagnostic link on pin 9 (SDL). Outside of the EU and the US its usually the 2001 on models that have the link on pin 7, it uses the ISO physical layer (hardware) but a Suzuki proprietary version of the KW protocol. The extra wire on pin 9 is usually for an immo, ATM or for programming. |
