Hey guys, I got my WT shaft from sierradan to do my t-case conversion. Was hoping someone can help me ID it as a WT shaft? someone mentioned they take m12 bolts, but it seems this shaft is m10? is there any other identifying features? |

All WT sierras are M10 bolts. |

Not really that clear though Pete..... As a general rule... NT = 8mm bolts. WT = 10mm bolts The exception being plastic flared WT's with NT flanges and 8mm bolts. |

It's not just the bolt size that's different, the bolt pattern is also different between the two. NT is 55mm x 55mm WT is 60mm x 60mm Some WT Maruti yokes/flanges have the WT bolt pattern but still use M8 bolts. You can drill them out to accept the larger bolt, but it's a bugger drilling the material. |

If I said 12 mm bolt the I'm sorry what I ment was I thought they were a m12 hole to take a 10mm bolt. But they aint even a m12 hole either |

nope was no m12'ness at all dude. all good, ill buy some cheapass bolts and get some new SS ones in a few weeks when i go back to work. |

I hope SS means High tensile drive shaft bolts and not Stainless Steel. Stainless bolts shear at much lower Nm than G8's. And driveshaft bolts have a 16-20mm un-threaded shank where it passes through the flanges. Normal bolts do not. |

I had some bolts fall out and chucked staino ones in to get me out of trouble, surprisingly lasted till the new build! |

There is more material where the most shear occurs, there is a flat surface instead of thread (which can assist in propagating a crack) which is better for shear. The solid shank also reduces the clearance, which means there is less room for the bolts to bend etc. Just use solid shank bolts. Should use spring washers too. |

okay, ill have to find some m10 shanked bolts then. hopefully boltmasters stock em. ive just got stainless ones in at the moment cos i dont have anything else, havent been wheeling with them though... nothing hard anyway. |

Jimnys use unshanked bolts on the driveshafts. at least when i replaced mine they where fully threaded bolts orginally. and lock nuts are better then spring washers. can still undo with spring washers. Also A4-80 Grade Stainless or 316 grade has the same tensile strength as 8.8 grade steel bolts well pretty much a little bit less. but there are even higher grade Stainless bolts being produced to replace 10.9 and 12.9 graded steel bolts also. just need to look for them. |

okay, i got some new bolts here. They are M10 x 40mm and have about a 10-15mm shank on them. They are just black steel Grade 8.8 Should those do the trick strength wise? the shank isnt really big, but it should be enough for at least the flange on the t-case. |

It will be fine. I ran M8 stainless bolts with a welded front and geared without issue. Use good loctite or nyloc nuts but, cos they may rattle loose (the reason for my SS bolts) |
