what one is stronger?

Neither. Internals are interchangable. Q.E.D. they are both piss weak.

intresting... they feel like they have diffrent ratios to drive...

i wouldnt say piss weak tho pete.. there is more than one of them running boosted 1300/1600's and loving life.

I stand by my comments.

Sierra boxes are garbage. Thats why suzuki saw fit to use a bigger box for the G16's.... even the carby G16 is too much for a sierra box.

EDIT. You are asking which is stronger. The answer is neither. If you think a sierra (or jimny) box is strong, you've lost the plot.

thanks. just wondering.

I believe so, although I cannot confirm it. I do know for a fact that the internals are interchangable though, so if they are different, it ain't by much.

...their not garbage, just outside of spec for the torque output of a G16.

I know of quite a few guys racing with sierra gearboxes behind quite powerful GTI engines in sports 1300 and their fine. :D

yeah I know of a few behind turbo GTIs and turbo G16b infront of sierra box's, I have given them Hell behind gtis and only killed one , it had 400000km on it and became hard to grab gears. but what the Fuck would we know? Pete said there shit, he knows everything.

getting back to the topic at hand, or rather a side step...
is it posible to use the gear set from a m series box in a g series? as they have lowers ratio (assuming Jim is same as sierra) However now I think of it 5th in a jimny box is 1:1 however sierra is a actual overdrive...

haha I have been for a spin in oozuk a few times now, that truck is scary fast!
yeah I'm 90% sure that's a sierra box, but what would Steve know?

I can't find the ratios from g jimny box...

A metric fuckload more than you.

And he has admitted as much to me, that there are things about his sierra that he would do differently given his time again.

how much difference is there between the G & M series boxes & ratio's?

i'm guessing if you didn't skull fuck the clutch like a baboon it probably would hold up.

is this thread done yet. :P

Nah, with the width of the hilux diffs the calcium coatings on the gears will surely wear out too quick..

yep a masive amount.
they both have a 1:1 5th, but 1st in the g series is 3.6:1 where as m series is 4.2:1 (these are rough figures)

the reason jimny clutches only last 150,000km is the shit gearing in 1st, 2nd and 3rd...

IF I could swap them it will solve the gearing issue I have.

Who fed you that misinformation ? the G13 sierra box can take a pounding, it's small and lite and you already have one so you might as well use it. Example

I have owned a few sierra's over the years and i have in the past stripped an input shaft gear on a sierra G13 twice in my first swb sierra but let me explain how,
I was running a Carby G16A with high compression, big cam, head work, balanced, ect ect i had 4:1.9 crawler gears, 3.9 diff gears running ratchet lockers front and rear on 31's
it was a great package but the ratchet "lockrite/spartin" lockers are brutal on the drivetrain if your a hard driver, and back then i was very hard on the car, i would do 6000rpm launches in 4Lo at the club events and this eventually took it's toll and stripped the input shafts. I switched to a rear Air locker and never lunched another gearbox again.

Now at the other end of the scale I am now running a Turbocharged G16B with moderate horsepower with an excedy HD clutch feeding a STD G13 sierra Gearbox
I'm running 4.19 transfer gears and 4.6 diff gears on 33" tires.
Now with all that torque i split a transfer case in Half !! I have no rectified this with new gears-rocktoy ring and a mighty kong transfer cradle holding it all togther.
and with all the abuse that this new ute (OOZUK) gets the gearbox doesn't give me any trouble.

the only complaint i have with the G13 sierra gearbox is the poor shifter hat design, if you get on a steep enough hill all your gearbox oil try's to escape out the rear of the box past the gearstick bush and boot.
