Hey guys Just.need some thoughts on what I can do ! My spedometer is out because of my 2inch lift and 30's, a guy I work with says there are devices like a gps that tell you your speed correctly, any ideas on this? Where would I get one.? |

^what? Hi, what sort of car and a lift kit won't effect your speedo, because the speedo is mechanically effected, not by height. 30's on a sierra will end up about 9% out (i could be heaps wrong) and i fixed my sierra one with a marks adapters box, others have sent off to get the gear in the actual speedo changed. TBH, unless you want everything to be perfect, i wouldn't worry about it. who is going to know? |

All gps's are about 2 sec out, someone on here posted how to correct odometer reading a couple of days ago. 235/205 + distance travelled.( for 29.5's).You will be able to work out your speedo variation using this formula. bye |

gps is spot on! works off saelites.....can stand up in court if you have one that keeps the speed you were going at the time! mine is way way way out! with all the gearin and 32's when im doin 80 on the speedo im doin just under 100..... get a gps...work out the speeds and use white out on the dash to make a few lines! works wonders! |

My speedo is 10kms slower than the speed I'm doing, I have 30's. Once you know how many km's it's out by, it's easy to get used to. I drive around without even thinkin now, I just know that 60 is actually 70 and 70 is actually 80.. Just borrow a gps, find out how many km's you're out by and keep a note of it in your mind. I even used sticky notes at first just stuck over my speedo glass. Cheers |

Just because the 3 cars you've tried it in are unmodified doesn't mean they are accurate in showing 100km/h when your actual speed is 100km/h. According to the ADRs covering speedometers (ADR 18/03), your speedo CANNOT show you doing LESS than your actual speed, but CAN show up to 10% + 4km/h HIGHER than your actual speed. Most cars are around 5% from the factory. This amendment to the ADRs was introduced in 2006. Before that, the Speedo could be out by +/- 10%. If you have a pre-2006 vehicle and take it for an Engineering Certificate for a modification the includes a different tyre size, you MUST correct the speedo accuracy to be within the tolerance in ADR 18/03. The simplest and easiest way to do this is with a ratio correction box on the speedo cable. The correction box is a quick changeover, and if bought through a decent Instrument Shop then any future changeovers will only cost the price of another set of gears (or even swapped for nix, as they have a large supply of exchange stock for rally vehicles). The initial purchase cost will be equivalent (or less then) the labour charge to have your speedo removed and recalibrated, and the correction box can be removed when you sell the vehicle. |
