Hey Guys, I have a mate who was told by his mechanic in brisbane that his GV 2002 V6 H25A has an oil leak out of the timing case and is gunna cost a fortune to replace because its not a gasket its some special goop shit... Is this a common problem with these motors and are they just pulling his leg on the price being alot? He said he was told they need to pull the diff/crossmembers out, sump off, tappet covers off and then the timing chain covers to do it....... any help would be apprieciated as to if this is true and how difficult of a job it is. timing cover isnt to bad to do but you need to use a really good silicone, that sounds right the job it self is a mission... to pull the sump off you have to pull the motor out or un bolt the engine mounts and lifit it up enough |

Tell him find a new mechanic - that one sounds like he's getting set to take him to the cleaners. The "special goop shit" is silicone RTV sealant - we use Permatex Ultra Grey, available at the gas station convience store (yup it's that special) - there is a fair bit of work involved, depending on where the leak is, but if its the timing covers, there's no need to remove the diff, crossmembers, or sump. It's not that common a problem, but, if th mechanic is not familiar with the engine, it can become a problem, because there are gaps where additional sealant is required - Suzuki has a bulletin on this - which I have attached. |
