Post subject:  Lift for 2000 Grand Vitara Sports Edition

Sorry another lift thread

I have searched through the many threads relating to lifts (suspension or body) and want some advise for the following use:

Vehicle will be used for holiday overland travel and weekend camping. We are not 4WD warriors and are only looking to travel formed roads/tracks to get to interesting places especially in South Australia where we live, not hardcore off road travel where some form of track does not already exist. For example Oodnadatta, Birdsville tracks, possibly Simpson Desert.

My reading would indicate that a lift would be useful but my question is what sort of lift given our intended use of the vehicle: Body lift and/or suspension lift.

Any advice or recommendations would be much appreciated and thanks in advance

just get a suspension lift, ironman would be one of the cheapest @$880 off ebay, its 40mm and most lifts are 40mm. (plus $100 for some coil spacers if you want more than 40mm of lift) and $80 for camber correction bolts. a few spanners and an afternoon and your done.

body lifts are a bit hard on a GV from what I understand.

I'd go 2"suspension only, no need to bother with a body lift.

Or you can just add Spring spacers with std setup. you will get 30mm lift.

For what you are dong I would be upgrading the suspension to handle the corrogations regardless of any lift. In saying that the suspension is your best option. The only real reason to fit a body lift is to clear bigger tyres and gain sill clearance. Other then that it's an appearance thing.

A body lift on the GV is possible, same as the Vitara with the addition of a steering spacer.

My recomendation would be a Dobinsons lift from KPD INdustries. It will raise the GV by about 40mm and seems to be a nice comprimise between on and off road. Cam bolts are a must with any lift on a GV .

I run a combination of king and dobinson coils with spacers and cam bolts.
