This is probably the first time someone has asked for a recommendation for standard height replacement shocks on a Jimny before on this forum. Not looking for lift, Jimny goes perfectly well on Moreton Island where it lives it's offroad life.

I've searched tough dog, monroe, efs, rancho, trailmaster, ironman etc. and am very confused. If the shock is designed for a 40mm lift is it bad to fit it to a standard ride height Jimny?

Don't care about price cheap/expensive. Looking for the best brand and ride quality.

40mm lift shock means nothing to be honest. You have to know the extended length and the compressed length.

Undo your current shocks flex up the car and take a measuring tape. Then check the lengths you need. I would be looking at Joni or bilstein for what you want.

A 40mm lift shock will have a longer compressed length. Jimnybits sell AVO shocks in stock lengths with adjustable dampening that will stll allow the bumpstops to work on those tiny springs in the back

Thanks guys. I've been in touch with the Aussie AVO distributer and he advises they are available here in Aus. He wanted to know the fully open length I require. Does anyone know the open lengths of the stock front and rear shocks? I'm assuming they are different?

you can also get rancho adjustable shocks in the standard length.

Then I wouldn't be trusting the AVO distributor. The open length is irrelevant. Only the compressed length is relevant and it needs to be the same as standard. Incredibly, this is also true for any spring lift height where bumpstop spacers are not mandated with the springs, so I also have no idea what a 2" shock is.

Irrelevant until you flex your Jimny and the standard length springs fall out......

Undo your shock. It's only 1 bolt (you can keep the top in) and flex it up and measure. It's the best way. You can also measure the stock shock also. A google search might tell you the lengths.

I would just get stock replacement shocks from repco, supacheap or whatever

ome front shocks Open length: 450mm Closed length: 281mm
ome rear shocks Open length: 502mm Closed length: 314mm

this is for the OME 40mm lift. hopefully ill have time to check the stock shocks tonight.
