Looking at getting a lockright for the
Rear of the drova, I know the difference
In mechanics eg 1510 uses your sidegears,
1530 uses couplers, but what are the
pros/cons? Of if any?
Ive found info on vits that say,
strength or loudness (ease of operation)?

A mate had one with the couplers (replaces side gears) and couldn't get it to unlock at all, no matter how he set it up, may as well have brought a spool. He now runs the one that uses the original side gears and it works flawlessly.

Cool man that's basically what the guys with
Vits were saying, and it's not like need something
Extra strong, I only run 29" muds so I think
1510 without couplers would be best

the 1510 are the ones to get. everyone that gets a 1520 ends up hating it.

I run and have always run 1510's in all my zooks.

Depends on how its setup. They are an easy thing to fit but some people still get them wrong..

The one i had in the rear of the GV was shiot. but teh same lockright in a mates Vitara was fine.

I have a1530, and it works great in the rear of my gv. It did take a bit to shim up with thrust washers but the extra effort was worth it.I checked all clearances with feeler gauges when setting it up. The couplers are flat not tapered like side gears so are more sensitive to poor clearances.

mine is sweet i know it is there and if i drive the way you are meant to drive it doesn't give me any issues at all. i even told my wife how to drive it and she went off (by her self) no issues at all. i dont know if it makes a difference but mine is in a lwb vit with offset rims which probably helps its cause.

Same with mine, mine 1510. you forget its there most of the time, just when your turning sharply it will remind you its there ahaha.

nah not to bad mate, if you have steady power going into the roundabout then your fine, its just when you back off and then put power on a little it might bump a little. nothing to bad to worry about.

where you been hiding? havent heard from you since that trip to dwellingup!

Either coast the round a bout or power through constantly. On and off will make it jerk around.

nah nothing planned as such, ordering some transfer case gears for mine so going to hold off going out untill there in. yours should go nuts with a locker, open diffs didnt stop it much ahah.

I know you're probably just asking for the rear, but if you plan on running cromos in the front and if my memory serves me correctly, i THINK (please someone correct me) you need to run 1530?!

Or a 1510 with 26 spline side gears. The difference is whether they use couplers or side gears.

Is this a typo??....... isn't a 1510 and a 1520 the same except 1520 is for 1 litre sierra or LJ

I was gona say. :)

I'm considering tracking down a 1520 for my 1l (I wish I could find an LSD instead though!). Do they come with decent instructions on how to set them up properly? Is there a good (non video) guide to setting them up on the internet?

Yer, 1520 is the 1 litre, (and Stockman but not ordinary LJ) couldn't be bothered typing at the time I first noticed that, figured it must have been a typo. Instructions are good enough that an American can do them. Hell even I managed. Important thing is to file down the cross shaft box so the locking dogs clear the gears. They come with 2 little booklets, 1 is fitting, other is how it works and driving it. Hard to get 1520s now though. I'll have a 2nd hand one kicking around one day if I ever get to doing the housings for the chinasoongs.
