hey guys, im just chasing up answers for running a solid axle swap system for a suzuki vitara in Australia, and if it were to be engineered and tested for road use, could it be done? i want to buy the kit from america, but i also want to drive it on the road as an everyday driver..

the kit requires no welding to the chassis of the car, just bolting.

i have a couple of websites that sell the solid axle swap kit..

this is the trail tough guys that made the kit (installation instructions at the bottom of the product page)..

Mate where abouts in Aus are you? every state has different legal regulations but then again i dont think any state will engineer as SAS. have you spoken to an engineer to see if it possible?

also what are your reasons for wanting a solid axle? what have you done to the vit at the moment?

look at maxx13 s vit in the rigs section and look what hes done pretty sure hell be getting it engineered soon

Yep - he's in Tas and has found an engineer that will approve it apparently.

The big issue with the kits from the US is of course that they are set up for left-hand drive, so there'll be some fab to do to overcome that.

For the sake of comparison, Calmini now have a SAS kit as well which uses Sierra diffs from memory.

ive done a lot of mods to my vit, and i love the flex that the kits can give you, plus the choice of running 35's with out many mods to the guards, it would be a project car for a couple of years untill it was completely set up though, and im in NSW (pretty strict).
Ive looked at the calmini set up, but the idea of running different sized diffs and having to get wheel spacers on the front turns me off a little, these trail tough ones completely replace the front and back suspension with hilux diffs, so all the suspension components would be brand new, plus they give you more room to improve it (softer springs, longer shocks ect).

I am building an SAS from scratch, 96 LWB. mainly because our NZ-USD exchange rate is shit. I am working on the rear at present and have the rear link arms which were made by a suspension specialist. The arms are in and the rear diff brackets are mocked up. I am playing around with rear coils at the moment and I think I have the correct height and diameter. The cab has been chopped and I am putting on a flat deck.

Slow progress, but an interesting project.

If you order the trail link kit from Low Range, get them to swap out the LHD high steer arms for RHD ones when I enquired they said they would do it.

Budscustoms does solid axle swaps on Hiluxes and Surfs in Qld and gets them approved. He even makes his own radius arms.
If he can do it to Toyotas I can't see why it can't be done to other vehicles.
