hey tsock0 I had the same symptoms. I got a mechanic mate to clear out some stuff in the idle and I tightened the accelerator cable and put in some fuel system cleaner and I haven't seen it do it since. I also get a 'check engine' light on the highway doing speeds over 90km/h, but I have been looking around and told it is an 02 sensor issue, though I don't think this affects the issue you are having. I'd like to know if anyone else has any ideas |

Sounds like the motor is hunting. Not 100% certain, but I thing it's likely to be vacuum related. Checking that non of your hoses have come off or split would be a good starting point. |

IAC can be affected by air locks in the cooling system. I had big IAC problems (hunting as you describe) and since I properly bled my cooling system, they vanished. Steve. |

Gwagen can you please describe the correct way on bleeding the system. i realise theres no bleed nipple that i have found on my g16b. mine is in a sierra and i also have these problems. They have almost gone when i replaced the coolant and topped it right up. |

I can't comment. I have a rear mounted radiator and I have fitted a plug on the top of my thermostat housing to assist in bleeding. Steve. |

Hey mate, I have had this problem too, what I done was take the radiator cap off and start the car and let it run for about 20 minutes an once it's to operationf temp I give it some revs, you will see air bubbles coming up from the coolant, hope it works for you, Shane |

I'm confused... why would the coolant affect the revs? |

milandy wrote: I'm confused... why would the coolant affect the revs? Effectively the same reason coolant effects the choke on a carby car. Coolant runs up to the throttle body. Steve. |

Well i bled the cooling system as stated before and it has helped a bit with it reving so high. Do u think i should try it again Also since i replaced plugs and leads should i do the dizzy cap and rotor button maybe? |

Myne used to rev out to like 3000rpm upon start up then hunt between 2500 and about 3000. Turned out just to be the accelerator cable adjusted to tightly and after sorting that its been running sweet. May be something as simple as that. Id deffinately check the vacuum hoses for leaks. Also been told the maf sensor can cause similar problems but not 100% sure. |

Mine was doing this and still does occasionally. Cleaned out the afm and inlet line as well as the throttle body. Checked adjustment of throttle cable, also adjusted TPS (there is a screw in the throttle body near the TPS which adjust throttle position/idle). All of these made small improvements, I then bled the coolant system and this made the biggest improvement yet. Occasionally it does carry on I believe this is because of either a little bit of air still in the coolant system or the coolant temperature. My zook runs a sierra radiator with a davis craig thermo that is wire on all the time (previous owner). In the next few weeks I will be wiring the thermos in with a temp switch and manual override switch. I will also be replacing the termostat as this could vary the temperature to much and cause the coolant temp to tell the ECU to increase/decrease idle. How long since you serviced the cooling system? |

mine hunts on idle on cold mornings - on a really cold morning it will rev from 1000rpm down to almost stalling - it'll do this only while its between cold and warm on the temp gauge - for about 5mins if its just sitting in the driveway. It has also outright just stalled a few times too - hunted a few times then just carked it. I'd love to know what the solution is, but thus far i've got no idea! it is very repeatable though... but only on a cold start on a morning below 10*C. |

I have the g16b in my sierra with same problems. I have stripped off the throttle body to find the area where the coolant runs through it is totally blocked up. Its currently soaking in petrol to hopefully free it up so the coolant can run properly through there. |

mmm interesting... keep us updated! I wouldnt think mine would be blocked, only having 20,000km on it... but ya never know. |

anyone have a easy way of cleaning the coolant inlet in the throttle body. Ive had this soaking in petrol for 2 days with constant sprays of throttle body cleaner down there but it is still blocked. |

when i first got my vit (g16b) had similar issues, took it to a mech who took the throttle body off and it was completely blocked. there is no real easy way to remove dried coolant. you could fit a new Throttle body or scrape it out ahaha. i got a new one |

Still no luck reeceh? Can you drill it or scrape it out at all? Where abouts in Brisbane are you? I might be able to give you a hand if you want depending on location. |

There's no good access to it! It's been soaking in petrol since Monday. It's too hard to shove wire down there. Im at my gravatt! Ill be calling suzisport on Monday to see what they do or if they have another throttle body. |
