i have managed to scrape together all the parts to instal air con on my j20 vit. i scored a brand new wiring loom that plugged straight in but i have one wire left that i cant work out where it goes. its a yellow wire with blue trace. its a single wire that comes from the loom that plugs into the 2 relays in front of the fuse box. it has a black cover over it and heads from under those relays towards the firewall. think it then heads left towards the back of the motor but i dont know where it plugs into. can anyone help me out here.
just a pic of the engine bay would be a help. i need to see the rear of the engine from fairly high up.

i also have a spare plug under the dash but im hoping it will work without this loom being plugged into anything. once i get it gassed up hopefully ill be able to work out the under dash stuff.

Some a/c setups have a coolant sensor to detect an "overheat" condition - if the temp exceeds a given value, they disable the compressor (to decrease the heat load) and enable the condenser fan (to increase air flow) - this might be that wire heading toward the back of the motor.

The older Vitaras (SE416) worked this way - newer Vitaras (SQ series) don't have the additional sensor, the ECU performs the required function, unfortunately I haven't worked with yours (SV series) so I don't know.

It's entirely possible that you don't have the extra temp sensor fitted - if that's what it is, the a/c should function with it disconnected, you could also try grounded it through a small lamp bulb (a park lamp bulb) and see if it disables the compressor clutch.

thanx heaps gus. as usual a very comprehensive answer. dunno if i have that little sensor in the back of the head, ill have a look when i bring the car home from work.

on a side note i just bought a condensor off ebay and of course it looks like it will fit, but the fittings are different. for anyone one considering puting air con on a non air con j20 vit, dont do it. its to hard!!
