| Post subject: | Uneven tyre wear |
I have just noticed that my vitara has very uneven tyre wear. The front left tyre has worn quite alot on the outside of the tyre and now it has started making a loud whine in the steering wheel when going 70kms+ and slightly turning. The steering wheel just started vibrating too. Any suggestions as to what it could be? Sorry if I'm not being very specific. I am going to get a wheel alignment but been told it could be the wheel bearing? |

Yes, could be wheel bearing. They will (should!) check it when setting it up so if there is play they will let you know |

hey Dude, There are a number of things to cause uneven tyre wear. Misalignment / Wheel Balance Worn Tie rod's / Tie rod ends. Worn Ball Joints on the Drag link. Wheel Bearings. Frozen / Bent Shock absorber in the front. haha. thats the process i went through to sought out the same thing... might i just point out.... |

Alright thanks. I took it down to get a wheel alignment and the guy said that one wheel bearing is loose so I should get them changed just to be safe. Any ideas on how much it will cost a mechanic? I have never dealt with ifs cars so have no idea what I would be doing |

Easy as pie mate. hardest bit is getting the inner race out... and the new one back in. apart from that just lots of grease! Off the top of my head, you'll need Spanner set Socket set small punch and hammer Shit loads of hi temp grease Circlip Plires (or a couple of screwdrivers) The new Wheel Bearing Kit (with seal) A way to get out the old Race out ( I just used a piece of steel and some persitance to get the old race out... then i used the old race to hammer the new race in and Some Sealant to reseal the Locking hub |

The bearing inner race can easily be removed by welding to it a large washer then she just pops out - the heat from welding weakens the race .. |

Hammer and punch will get it out. Use the old race to smash the new one in |
