in my web travels i found this interesting.

Trail-Gear, Inc introduces a new concept to axle housing design. This exclusive design features axle tubes that have been offset above the housing centerline. The inner axles ride near the bottom of the axle tubes rather than in the center. The results are an increase of 3/8" ground clearance under the axle tubing. Axle tubes are made from ¼” thick DOM tubing.
The heavy-duty, press formed, 1/4" plate steel center section shell is specially shaped to ensure a minimum of 3/4" additional clearance under the differential. The differential mounting surface is made from ½” plate steel to ensure studs can not pull out, even under heavy loads. The outer offset flanges are made from 4130 Chromoly to prevent distortion or bending. Housings are precision alignment checked using start-of-the-art, 3D digital imaging equipment.

The Rock-Assault axle housings use stock or aftermarket 1986-1995 Toyota Pickup/4Runner axle shafts. An optional fill / inspection cap can be installed for an additional fee. Additional lengths as well as front applications will be available soon.

Overall housing length is 51 3/8" mounting flange to mounting flange. Empty housing is 54 lbs. Includes drain plug. Spring perches, shock mounts, and vent not included. Differential stud kit and RTV silicon are included and are recommended for use with this axle. Unpainted bare-metal, oiled finish to prevent rusting. We recommend degrease housing inside & out before installation and painting.

The original design concept for this axle was created by Jason (Locktup) Stanley. This rugged, high clearance design proved to be extremely tough and helped Team Trail-Gear win first place in the 2007 We-Rock F-Toy Series. Thanks Jason!

they are very sexy!!!! WE HAVE ONE!!!! dave is bending up the top framework for the 4 link this weekend (i hope). You are welcome to come have a look.....

They are an awesome design, no need to shave or plate you housing, they have a BIG inspection plug in them to check things or fill it. the ground clearance is insane, such an advantage. And they are cheap! especially in comparison to the amount of time and effort you would have to put into getting a stocker anywhere near as good as one of these babies.

$954 through locktup4x4. they are very cheap for what you get. they are NEW and have heaps of clearance, well worth the $$ IMO, clearance is like having 3" bigger diameter tires. almost an unfair advantage. EG: we have same diff clearance (toyota diff and 37" tires) than a nissan h233 on 40" tires. So when in a comp and you are all limited to say 37's, its like us having 40's on, and everyone drags there butts on everything!
