Post subject:  Cylinder 2 firing issue.. Help please

Hey guys.. It's been a while since I have posted here..

I am having an issue with cylinder 2 not firing

I am getting injector pulse.. I have also swapped my injectors over.. and still cylinder 2 is not firing.

If I pull the #2 spark lead off the engine doesn't change idle.. all the others do.

I have swapped spark plugs, leads, injectors, coil packs and done a compression test with everything coming back fine.

I'm stumped as to what else I can try or try to diagnose?
There are no CEL codes coming up either.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

What were the compression readings for all cylinders? Does it miss right thru the rev range?

between 160-180 from memory

When I start the car.. It runs fine for appox 3-15 seconds.. then sounds like it cuts out a cylinders..

If I drive it.. the car occasionally feels and sounds like it comes right.. but the coffs and splutters before too long.. I notice it more when I put my foot down in gear.. but that could just be my mind also

Well if you're certain it has fuel and spark then I would suspect a burnt valve. But that would show up as lower compression. It may be a fault with the injector wiring or the ECU itself.
Another thought, when was the fuel filter last changed?

My Vit had similar symptoms, but ended up being a dodgey number 2 spark plug lead.

But if you've swapped leads and plugs, smell the spark plug and see if it has fuel on it.

I have tried a couple of different ECu's.

Also the filters are brand new

I removed the plug and removed the carbon build up and ran 2 scenarios

Ran the car at high idle and removed plug to see if any new carbon was present on plug.. which there was not

I have ran the car without #2 spark lead connected to the plug, then took it out as soon as i stopped the car and the plug was dry....

As stated before, I have checked/swapped out the injector, also tested power and earth pulse from ECU.

Plug dry means no fuel.
Check the injector plug and the harness plug at the back of the motor.

Thanks for your advice
I have checked and swapped plugs.. re ran harness...
I've tried pretty much everything I can try without pulling the head off and checking the valves

Might be worth paying for a leakdown test to eliminate a burnt valve as a cause.

Forgive me ...

1) If the compression is good (see post 3) what do you expect the leak down to show?
2) If the plug is dry (see post 6), you have two possible scenarios - the injector is not spraying fuel (for whatever reason) - or - the intake valve isn't opening (which should also show in the compression numbers) - pull the cam cover and turn the engine over, you should be able to see the movement of the rocker(s)

One last thing - I have no idea what vehicle/engine we're discussing - it's not mentioned and fatz avatar shows a Samurai/Sierra, but he's talking about swapping plugs, injectors, plug leads & coil pack - some of the 1.6s have been known to have injector harness issues with chafing causing broken wires & shorts.
