| Post subject: | 2nd fuel filter in engine bay |
Hey guys I wanna put a second fuel filter in my engine bay, I always have carby troubles and just got everything sorted so I wanna try and keep it that way  I was just wondering if anyone has pics of how they mounted/set up theirs? I wanna try and do a neat job. Thanks guys

No pics, but in my daily-drive Sierra I have a Speco brand glass with wire mesh inline filter mounted half way along the carby fuel hose. It is cabletied to the PCV breather hose. |

I was checkin your out the other day it looks good with the new tyres & rims

I was checkin your out the other day it looks good with the new tyres & rims ohhh yeah, shit got in the carby again.. did the old swap the leads trick and that worked. havent had a problem since and that was 2 weeks ago so im just doing everything i can to prevent things happening again. yeah cheers mate shes come up good needs ruf and gearing and she'll be all set!

it's just a low pressure plastic fuel filter with straight barbs on it, any auto shop will be able to help |

Those exact filters you can get at SuperCrap for $3. Their good because you can tell what shits in them and if there's any water in your juice |

I would run one of these before your factory filter as the filtration won't be fine enough. Put it somewhere that you can get at and out of the way. Alot of diesels run a CAV filter with a water seperator which work well, not sure if they are only for diesels? |

I think the point of having it in the engine bay is to stop crap from the fuel pump membrane getting through or something? |

I also replaced the stock filter with an inline efi filter, got it for $30 brand new, think was from a commodore? They filter better, and last a very long time |

Personally I wouldn't keep a large volume filter above the engine - I'd be worried about boiling the fuel but then again i'm not a mechanic. I have this one and it's a fraction of the volume and re-usable as well.  If you are worried about price, repco sell these Ryco Z676 'tiny' ones for less than $10 and they don't occupy much more space than the hose itself and you could put one on the carby end of the hose and not have to tie it down... http://www.rycofilters.com.au/library/news/1235626035_document_77-09_e-notice_feb_web.pdf I'd use the Ryco ones next-time and just replace it every so often. |

No point having a water seperator filter in a petrol vehicle... Just add a litre of metho to the tank every few months.. Metho is hygroscopic so it absorbs the water. Metho mixes with petrol and gets burnt. Metho doesn't mix with diesel so you can't use it and need a proper water seperator filter. |

EFI requires a high pressure filter. usually a metal one, for christ sakes if you have EFI, DO NOT put a $3 placcy one from supercheap in. it WILL rupture, and you will have a lovely engine fire to deal with!!!!! remember EFI fuel pressures are around 60psi, so even the hoses you need to be carefull with! |

Last "Metho" i bought was named 100% ethanol on the back Not sure if they still make the old style |

Yes it is the fuel pressure that does it apparantly. 60psi is efi however most supply pressure for common rail is above 100psi and the new lift king that arrived at work is common rail and has a cav type filter. Want33s I would be getting a cav type filter for the filter price and ease of replacement. Flow rate should be fine EFI |
