hey guys jst wondering wat i need to make diff breathers n the thread type n size

you pop the breather cap off the diif and 1/2" hose will push on and lock it there with a hose clamp. I dont like this way though, 1/2" hose is major overkill for a breather.

What I done is pop the breather cap off, tapped out the hole to 1/8"BSP (no drilling required, the tap is a perfect fit in there). use a strong manget on the side of the tap and most of the filings will stick to the tap and not fall into the diff, then drain and flush the diff when your done to remove any filings that did get in there.

you can then use a brass barbed hosetail and attach any size hose you want. 1/4" is the best for it. You could also use nylon airline (like airlocker hose) and pushfit fittings, looks very neat when done.

for the other end of the breather I used an airline silencer, its a fitting with a honeycomb type of filter on it.

my breathers are not flash but they work. 10mm air line (cos i have heaps) pop the diff breather cap off force the hose on. whack a hose clamp on, run the line into the engine bay avoiding bits that move or get hot. i plumbed mine into the charcoal canister but that's probably not the best.

i have taped two brass nipples into the side of the air box and have hose running from each diff to these. is completly water tight.

But under high revs this will create a negitive pressure area inside the airbox making them suck the air from the diffs. If your diffs are hot then rapidlily cool this make the air inside the diffs contract creating another area of low pressure. Since the breather can't allow air to enter the diff the only other way in will be through weak points like seals ( which will be underwater)

Best to tuck them up under the guard with a cheapy fuel filter on the end

mine run through fuel filters into my snorkle pipe.. no mud in there (hopefully)

Is there a metric tap that I can use? We have mainly metric fittings at work...

metric are parallel threads and you would need to seal it with a copper washer or similar, BSP is a pipe thread and is tapered, all you need to seal the thread is thread tape.

you would find a metric tap that would fit easy enough, maybe 10mm fine at a guess but you will find it very hard to get a fitting with a metric thread. Most brass hosetails are BSP thread.

the other idea I have heard of but have never actually seen is to pressurise the diff. low pressure on a regulator only 2psi or there abouts and have it continiously exhausting so it doesn't over pressure. would be great for keeping the water out of the diff.

But too much pressure (and it wouldn't take much to be too much) and BANG goes the diff housing.

I reckon an aerator for fishtank kinda thing and only switched on when you need it would work good, along with into the dizzy cap
