who says the remote filter has to be upside down anyway? and would a supercharger really take up the small amount of space where the fiter is or underneath it? keep in mind youll still need to fit the filter adaptor and lines in where the filter was anwyay so wont gain much room

why are you after a oil cooler anyway superchargers don't heat up oil that much unless some thing is wrong or its mounted to close to the exhaust.

It's not going to be a drama having the filter 'upside down'. Filters don't care which way up they are.

Has anyone had any experience with these before? I have seen a few setup that puts the oil filter upside down. Now granted I thought it would be easy to unscrew the filter like that, but oil would piss out everywhere once your unscrew it. But then i'm told that the oil drains back because of gravity. Ok that takes care of that problem, but does that then mean you have no oil pressure on startup???

Damo wrote: but does that then mean you have no oil pressure on startup??? You can get filters with anti-drainback valves to stop the oil from flowing back out. It's not really a huge drama anyway, there's enough oil sitting in the head and trapped in bearings etc to keep it from being an issue.

1HZ standard have the filter on an angle so that they drain.

So if I setup one of these things would I need to make sure I bought filters that did not have that anti drain back valve? It would be a standard ole Z9 filter.

Wont it?

I have come across similar questions and comments on another forum so I can tell you what I have read. I have heard a couple of time now that not much oil comes out when you remove it from the remote file if it is upside down and is not an issue - just put a rag under it. Drain back is not an issue 'cos once you start the car up oil pressure is built up quiet quickly. An advantage though of the remote oil filter is you no longer have to stick with the same brand / type of oil filter and you can use a larger filter on to give even more oil capacity - you just have to match the thread (plus I assume you are going to put an oil cooler in too which will give you even more capacity).

The only real advantage is that it gets the filter out the way to make room for other components.

1. Z9 is a bigger filter which is available everywhere cheap 2. It allows you to put an oil cooler inline 3. Changing the filter will be hard (if not impossible) in the stock location with a supercharger in the way

On top of that it's not really so much the room, i could make it fit, it's just how much of a pain in the ass it would be to remove the filter once everything is in place. Dry sump would be cool, but don't go giving me more things to think about, i spend precious little time in reality as it is

if you just want to fit a cooler run one off the pick up next to the oil switch. that is where you pick up for a turbo oil line. you would have to do some thing about keeping pressure up in the engine but that is easy to sort out. why are you after a oil cooler anyway superchargers don't heat up oil that much unless some thing is wrong or its mounted to close to the exhaust.

Imagine your trying to get up a rock ledge, or bogged etc. It's the middle of summer (Qld of course ) bugger all airflow through the radiator coz you're not moving, which is already a lot less efficient because you have a power steer cooler and a water/air intercooler heat enchanger in front of it.

I would be more inclined to leave room for it and measure the oil temp before bothering with it, I am not sure if there is such thing as too cold oil but its a lot of critical hoses to not want to break

good point, you would need to put a oil temp switch in it for hyw driving to make sure you don't lower the oil temp to much or you'll kill your engine pretty quick. think of it like driving your engine all the time as a cold start up, thats when you do most wear on the engine. i think the remote oil filter is a great idea! make it easy to get to/ run bigger filter. another thing i just though of, will the std oil pump have enough pump volume to keep pressure up to it if you have say about 1 ltr of extra oil line/ cooler to fill?
