Actually the Spidertrax ones are the best you can get for sierras, but at $500USD, most people go for the cheaper rock assaults, and trail toughs. |

Any particular reasoning? Material, design, manufacturing process, post treating..... Most people won't ( and don't) have an issue with the R/A's ot T/T CRMO gear, so paying double for seemingly no gain is not the chosen path for most sierra owners. |

I honestly havent seen a chromo cv dead. ive seen a few axles twisted off though. I will be running custom hytuff inner shafts with rock assaults to avoid this |

I'm currently on my second set of chromos... My first set was a set of the Trail Tough's and they broke, so for my second set i ordered the rock assults from lowrange. Partly because they were 50% off at the time and combined with a strong Ozzy dollar meant they were pretty cheap... They havn't been in for long and i havn't really given them a good workout yet, so i can't really comment on any differences... But if you can afford it, I would just spend the extra and invest in the Spidertrax ones. I'm pretty sure Gwagensteve is running the spidertrax ones and hasn't had any dramas yet... |

What did you break RPM? The CV or the axle? |

The long side axle splines sheared off inside the airlocker. I was very lucky the airlocker was ok... |

Just to clarify, regardless of brand, all US sourced cro-mo CV's are exactly the same, and as far as I know, they are manufactured by EMPI. The difference between the manufacturers is all in the inner axles. Trail tough, for instance, have sold 5 different versions of the inner axle, with various changes in material and design. I have, I think, the 4th gen inners, which were made by CTM, but the trolley tug runs the 1st gen inners, which others have broken. Michael's had no problem with his though. I have fitted a pair of spidertrax cv's, but they haven't been wheeled. They were very nicely made axles for sure. I don't think spidertrax list them anymore though. Steve |
