so im gonna have a go at building a truggy. first time doing this so its going to be a big learning curve for me. the only thing thats stopping me is the chassis. i have a a choice of a swb sierra chassis or a lwb ute chassis. the cab is the ute cab of the lwb chassis, which i want to use but im worried that i wont be able to get clearance past the chassis with coil overs/ airshocks. is there many lwb zooks in the truggy seen that use a lwb chassis. i no of the orange ute but hes still on springs. is it better to use a swb chassis and dove tail/tube the rear or what. i really would like to use the lwb as it will be less work then tubing the rear and would get the choice of having a tray for all the gear..... help please |

I think Canberramav has a chassis still? Tube rear makes life heaps easier. The chassis is just in the way. |

guess it depends on how far your planning on going with the whole truggy thing?. if your looking at rear steer your gonna have to chop up the chassis at the rear and tube it to get the wheels clearance to turn. so use the SWB one and sell of the LWB. |

Yeah I know he's got coils. You need to decide what setup you're aiming for. The good thing about a buggy is you can what you want. |

i dont really want to chop up a good lwb chassis, so i will go with the swb chassis and dove tail it for the start. |

Good call. Use the SWB chassis, chop it just behind the ute cab, and make a tube rear end. |

sweet. well ill have to do some research. wasnt planing on tubing the rear, so dont eally no exact what to do. ill give it a try. i will start a buid thread soon so i can get help while building it. |

chop him behind b pillar, and 300mm atleast in front of firewall.that way you will keep comps happy.engine mounts are past that anyway for about a day mine was gonna have full chassis then decided on the rear it wouldnt work. then at the front it wasnt gonna allow any up. least with the tube you can go in and up plus your 50 odd mm less in size than the chassis anyway so a lowish rig with decent up travel is achievable theres pics in my thread if interested for possible ideas if no one has any more for you |

yea being looking at yours appsie and alot of the other zooks on outerlimits. shouldnt be that hard for me as i work with metal everyday. just need to figure how im going to run the tubes and how to attach it to the chassis, and make it strong |

rhetts is still rhs. just been tapered in,notched etc. plenty of other rigs.the mounting at the chassis worried me too. ive done it twice now as i cut it all out when i redone my rear upper links etc. was happy with it both ways and think it will never fail me |

For a first time build I would seriously consider using coils and shocks, you can still get a shit load of flex out of a 3 and 4 link with captive coils and it will be a fair bet less stressful to setup. If you do use airshocks budget for a swaybar as well as you will more then likely need one. |

or go straight to a 2.5" shock,dont go 2" imo but i agree and sometimes wish i went coil n shock just cause comps arent my thing and itd be a much better driver at speed when i go playin before the gully runs |

I would look at the comps around your area and build to the rules. Or more specifically build to the rules of the particular comp you want to do. I have a full chassis. I can still do comps like willowglen and toperi and be competitive. For me to do Tough Truck ive pretty much learned that the current setup is not too good for it. If your calling it a truggy then that means lopping off the chassis from behind the cab? At least that is my understanding of a truggy. Also get coilovers if your budget allows. heaps better. |

Yea I'm building it to the rules. There's plenty of comps in qld for me. I've been reading all the comps rules, trying to put them all together so I can compete in the events I want to. So far I have G16a, complete hilux, complete gas system, chassis, cab, TC gears. Just need to buy all the dear stuff  I wouldn't mind building it for speed as there's a few speed events around me. |

King of the Rim is up there. I'm keen for that one. My mates car was built for slow and fast. 3.8, auto, lt230, 3link front 4link rear, coilovers, rear sway bar and hydro bumps, lux diffs and 37" Treps. |

Yea I'm keen on that comp. Commo engine is to much work for me. I'm happy with a standard engine or vitara engine. |

with all the scenic rounds,tough tracks and kotr im sure you will have plenty of fun and get some use out of it. then theres a few new events poppin up still. profender coilovers,or even fox coilovers with cheaper coils,profender bumps are all fairly cheap and the way i should of went |
