Hi all my transfer case jumps out of high 4 to high 2
4 low is fine does anyone have an idea why it is so?

possibly the detent in the shaft is a bit buggered or the ball bearing there is???my 1st zuk did it from 4l back to 4h without a bodylift or anything??

the popping out of 4lo is normally the bush, how of 4h, do you have uneven size tyres or unequal tyre pressure?

No body lift , stock suspension, same size tyres pressure to within 2 psi all round, previous owner shifted h4 to h2 on the fly so trans was locked in
2h when i bought the car new plastic lever seat washer fixed that 4 low
is no problem had no need of 4h untill last week lever moves forward fast could not hold it in by hand like its winding up it happens in 25 seconds aprox
no noise of any kind when it shifts its not stopping me but it is annoying me

so it only takes about 25 seconds in 4h to pop out? does it pop out of 4l or get really hard to pull out?

can you hold it in 4h or does it force its way out?

4l is fine shifts smooth and easy.
it forces it self out of 4h can not hold it by hand
its like it winds up pressure quickly then goes as in front axle in 4wd on hard surface same kind of feel trans oil is clean/full
trans rebuild kits are cheap as are all parts but if its only a left handed whatzit that would be better

What if there was a different diff ratio front to back? Could that affect it?

thats what I thought but its fine in low range.

it has me stumped, I guess it has to do something with detents or the selectors for 4wd but I really cant think of what

Low range may have enough nuts to turn it ok...

Does it do the same thing when you drive in reverse 4H?

With the hubs disengaged does it still jump out of 4H?

Are both the front hubs locking in?

I dont mean can you turn them both. We had a similar problem with a friends Vit that had never seen dirt. One of the hubs was semi seize and would not fully engage. It turned fine but wouldnt properly engage the hub and when it would lock in it cause the shifter to jump out of 4H.

i just finished a 12hr shift
both hubs should be o/k checked and greased
2 months ago doing front bearings
i dont tend to use 4h much
just wanted to spin it up on a dirt road
found problem and got confused
last posted 4wd only track i did was in a au falcon 2 months ago
its a short cut that was not so bad last time i used it
12klm 2hrs but not a scratch on the falcon and it drove all the way home
tyre placement was critical

My GV does the same thing.

I'm hoping it is being caused by the craptastic vacuum freehub arrangement, that the GV's are blessed with, skipping under load.

I pulled my transfer case apart expecting to find a bent shift fork or knackered somethingerather but it was all shiney and new.

you'd get to see some pretty nice boats out there i bet. a mate i hadnt seen in ages entered the bridge to bridge, and in their first ever race they won their division. crackatoa in the under 70mph class.

another thought if the problem comes back is transfer case mounts. if ones broken the case might be moving a bit and the shifter hitting on the hole in the floor.

check your mounts but also pull the shifter boot off and go for a drive.
