How much difference would there be from a WT Transfer or NT Transfer case to a Coily? Have searched and found that the final drives range from NT 4.1 to a Coily 3.9 and WT 3.7. However, I have not found much information regarding differences between Transfer Case gearing model to model. Would a NT transfer have lower final output drive over the entire range of gears compared to a WT? I am looking at either as a replacement for my Coily and do not want Lowrange Gear at this stage. I am looking for a lower range of gears overall, High and Low Range and cannot change my final drive (Coily). Any assistance appreciated Cheers Richard |

WT and NT transfer gearing is the same. 1 Litre transfers with 4x4 switch were lower geared. |

Any assistance appreciated Cheers Richard WT and NT transfer cases are the same with different flanges and NT has a drum brake on the transfer. The gear ratios are the same for all 1.3l transfer cases. Generally when we say NT we're referring to a 1.3l narrow track, 1ls are all narrow track (Marutis aside) but they're refereed to as 1ls or SJ40s. 1ls have a lower geared transfer but there are 2 kinds of 1l transfer case, the switched type and the non switch type. the switched type is easier to use for such a conversion but the non switched type requires mixing and matching of uni joints and yolks. Just to clarify, 1ls have 4.11:1 diff ratios, NTs have 3.909 and WT has 3.727. The easiest one for you to use would be a WT transfer, conveniently this is also the most common. Thanks Hayden |

Thanks for your help guys, pretty much confirmed what I had found. Apologies for not clarifying that, 1litre NT have 4.1 gears and 1.3 have 3.9 Have located a 1ltr switched transfer complete with cradle and all yokes. Have also located a WT transfer as well. I believe the 1ltr will reduce gearing by approximately 12%, so will try that way. Either way will be better than my noisy Coily Transfer Cheers |

Had a set of 30.5 Goodyear Wranglers and did not like the change to the gearing the taller tyres made. Have just put on a set of 235/75/15 Maxxis Bighorns and am happy. I still think it is geared a little tall, is only @ 3200 rpm at 100kph. While I think that is acceptable, I would like to lower the gearing some. |

Cheers No, putting a 1.0lt transfer in a Coily will reduce the High Range by 19.6% and the Low Range by 18.2%. The actual ratios were provided above in Tanshi's post. You will be relatively be worsening the difference between Hi and Lo compared to the spread in the Coily case. Putting the WT case in a Coily will reduce both Hi and Lo by about 6%. |

So if I was doing 100 kph @ 3200prm and used the 1ltr Transfer with 19.6% reduction it would increase my revs to approximately 3827rpm? 3200rpm+19.6%=3827rpm if my maths is correct? If I used the WT it would increase my revs from 3200rpm to 3396rpm with 6% reduction? I have a GTi engine in my sierra and they dont mind the revs, but maybe that is a little to high for my liking. Would like the 18.2% reduction on my low range gears. Mmm decisions decisions Which way to go? Can always put a set of gears in at a later date with a WT transfer Will still be better than my noisy coily transfer Thanks for the information guys Cheers |
