As we tend to go out and about by ourselves a fair bit, we have always had some way of self recovery in case of getting stuck.

I have had a look at the come-along style of hand winch and wondered if this would cut the mustard if I was to get say a 2 or 3t version. I get the stuff about poor quality units bending and being more trouble than they are worth, but was wondering if anyone has experience with using one to get you out of that sticky predicament.

I can always keep throwing the hand winch (a tifor 516) I have in the back but it'd be great if there was something that took up a bit less room and weighed in a few kegs less.

I'm not wanting to put a leccy winch on the front as after having one hanging off the front of 4 cars for the past ~15 years and only needing to use it as many times (used it more on others than myself), I don't see it as cost effective for my needs given the other things you need to do to have one.

Problem with the small ones is then length of rope
They will do the job but u will need a extention strap as well and even then u will probly need something with more length adjustment
Could use a winch rope and tie alpine butterflies every meter
Then u could adjust ur winch rope along the loops as needed
Its alot of mucking round and cost
U probly better of taking the tifor
