Got the power steer hooked up on my sierra, with the vitara box and pump. I am using an after market res from low range, the aluminium one..

When I started the engine up to check for leaks I noticed a leak from the hose that connects to the res to the pump.... I am using a fitting on the res that can handle 200psi and you dont need a hose clamp for it... and on the pump side it is just hose clamped on..

Its leaking from fitting on the res, I put a hose clamp on it and its still leaking..

Does it need to be high pressure fitting and hoses for it? I thought it wasnt..

Does not need to be h/p line. Thread sealer perhaps on the fitting?? Dodgy fitting??

I may double hose clamp it,
The guy who sold me the fitting said once the hose is on the fitting you can get it off without cutting the hose, I dont want to have to buy more hose, so I may double clamp it, im it leaks still then im gunna have to try some kind of sealent aswell

I didnt do it up that tight cause I was worried about that or stripping the thread, I just dont under stand why its leaking so much, wouldnt that hose just suck the fluid ddown? not have pressure pushing it out

Where is it actually leaking?

From where the stem goes into the hose or from behind the (loose) nut on the hose fitting?

If its from behind the nut, the problem lies with either the seat in the hose fitting or the seat in the face of the male fitting on the res. A small dent in the face of the seat is enough to cause a leak.

It is leaking from I between the hose and the fitting, hence why I said I will try to double hose clamp it. there is nothing leaking out of the thread of the fitting and the res. I checked that cause it didn't make sence when it was still leaking.

Strange. Those type of fittings are usually pretty good. I have had them operating at a static 500psi with no leaks (in 3/8" hose size).

There should be no pressure on the reservoir to pump line - check the hose or the fitting for damage

You might have damaged the liner when installing the hose to the hosetail. Get a new piece of hose, nd use a bit of ps oil up the hose and on the tail when installing to make it slide easier.

DO NOT use hose clamps on that type of hose tail, not even to stop a leak. The barbs on the hosetail are quite large and pointed, a hoseclamp will cause the barb to cut the liner of the hose, making it leak worse (or blow off in a pressure application).

Also don't just use any old hose, it has to be suited to those hosetails. Get some from your original supplier or go to enzed and ask for pushfit hose.

Is it a metric sized barb and metric hose? Sometimes the barbs are imperial and don't match the hose to make a tight fit. It might appear tight but that's because of the barbs.
