Hello All,

I am new to this forum and also a new suzuki owner. I recently bough a jimny 2000 (G13B) and I would like to make some improvements to obtain a better performance offroad.
I am in the process of doing the standard (eg. tyres, lifting kit and snkorkel) but I also like to know what I can do to improve the engine power.
Also would appreciate some advise on recovery points.
Thank you all for your help.
Cheers

J

The best way to get more power would be to fit a G16B bottom end partnered to your G13BB head, that way there are no wiring issues and air intake stays the same.

do you really need more power?

A baleno g16 would be a good swap into on of these. or a J20A if your more mechanically minded.

Depends on your skill set or budget

If you've put bigger tires on I would fix your gearing first. This is were your power lose would be from.

Because I use this car as my daily car, would be good if I could drive at 100km/h without having the car on 4000h. I do not want to force the car on road.
Thank you all for you feedback.

That is perfectly normal, that is the rev range they are designed to operate at. Lowering the revs will only reduce power and increase fuel useage.

Forgive my ignorance but I did not want to drive for an extend period of time in such high revs. Specially at the Freeway, where I have to seat at 100km/h.
I really use the engine's power off road but I though that I was doing the right thing by taking easy on the road.

That is the revs it needs to operate at, end of story.

You can fit bigger tyres to make your revs lower. Good excuse to :)

But they will drain power also.

Another option is to start playing with transfer gearing. There are not many options to change to lower diff gears because the front centre is fairly 'unique' to Jimny

X2. Adding taller gearing reducing engine RPM will return less power, and you will use more fuel. Excessive RPM kills engines, however 4000RPM isn't excessive for a 1.3L engine designed to run continuously at that speed.

Increase your tyre size and you will feel the added load caused by the change in gearing.

Take my word on this, because I run big tyre with out gearing and I have not much power and my fuel millage is shot.
I'm about 3700-3800 at 100 with 30" tyres. Highway driving is fine I can drive at that rpm for 3hrs straight and it's fine
Round town I have power lose because I have no gearing. Jimmy engine torque range comes in around 3500rpm. So dropping your rpm under 4000rpm you will start to loose power. idk what engine you have but the m13a can rev happily on 4000rpm. I rev mine even higher then that. Like zukmeista said, start lowering your rpm then stock, you start having problems.

I run G13BB, 30" Muds with a Sierra WT transfer case and it sits on 3750rpm at 100km. Fuel economy is always around 9.5L/100km.

Im going 4:9's soon so I except it will be reving harder but I will take that for the off road performance.

Just because M13A can take a good thrashing all day long doesn't neccesarily mean thats ok for the G13B. G13B has a slightly long stroke according to wiki, so it doesn't lend itself to hi revs quite as easily as a short stroke M13 - at least on paper anyway.

On paper but the G13BB, as I recall, has the same bore and stroke as the G13B twin cam motor and that was a rev box.

When I had a G13BB Jimny there was a noticable drop in performance and economy just going up to 215R15s

Correct. I hydraulic'd a G13BB and couldn't get a set of rods, so I started looking for alternatives and found the GTi G13B had the same rod.
Fitted them with new shells and she loved it!

Dont be afraid of rpm in your jimny mate

motorbikes with these sized engines rev way higher, would you slow down to keep the revs down?

I know most people would consider 4000 rpm high but you have broadened your horizons by buying a suzuki. You will learn lots of neat stuff including how some of the things you thought you knew about cars dont always apply

Have fun
