Greetings
I have a 1994 SJ70 which has recently developed a rather odd problem.
The idle speed until recently was quite fast (around 1500rpm). I didn't touch it.
Suddenly, the idle now fades to nothing and the engine stalls unless I switch on the lights. Even the sidelights causes the idle speed to go back to normal (i.e. around 1000rpm). Turn the lights off and the engine dies.
Apart from demonic possession does anyone have any ideas where to start to look?

They have an idle-up which causes the revs to increase when there is an electrical load. Sounds like either the idle needs to be tweaked, or more likely the idle jet is blocked.
I have the same problem with my 92 serria. When i turn my lights on the engine will rev up and down continusly. A blocked idle jet makes sence but what is the mechanisim that activates the idle up function?
There will be a vacuum actuator on the side of the carb - watch whilst someone else turns the lights on & off and you'll see it move - it will pull a lever which contacts an adjusting screw.
