I got mine made up at Aussie Automotive at Lawnton. I just took my old ones in and told them the length I wanted. They where $75 each braided with new fittings regardless of length and it took them about 2 hours as well. Very professional as well, i highly recommend them.

Many Enzed/Pirtek stores will make new, legal, ADR approved brake lines in rubber or stainless to the length you require <500mm

Have there been reports of these being poor quality? I was about to get some since putting in the new struts are maxing the stock lines. If they are crap, I'll search elsewhere. Or are you just doing your usual OPJ routine :P

As far as i know Outdoor auto gets them done locally, i have there braided ones for my jimny.

They should have a sleeve over the braid and have the ADRs they comply with stamped on it, at least mine do. I have had imported braided lines fail so I now get them made by a brake specialist.

I know the first jimny ones he sold were imported. If they're now getting made locally then they'll be ADR'd.

Mines stainless with a coating over it. Has ADRs stamped on them.
When i ordered mine of outdoor auto, they were geting them made up, there supplier took to long to get the fittings in so they gave me some braided ones for the same price.

With brakes, Never skimp out on it, do it right and get the propper stuff. The way I see it, For the sake of saving a few bucks it could potentially end in a very very bad incident to yourself or worse, to others on the road or in your car. When the insurance or cops go over your car and see they're not ADR compliant, have a guess what can happen.

Also, a brake specialist explained to me that brake fluid used in different parts of the world could be different to what we use here which may deterioate the rubber liner quicker. I'm not sure if this is true, but kind makes sense.

yeah i had one made up recently for britvit, was ready in a couple hours. they do the braided lines in every colour of the rainbow, i was going to get him pink ones... but he wanted black braid. :lol:

my brake shop is a drive through service, they don't have a carpark as such... more of a pit lane & starting grid going through the building, sales on one side & the workshop on the other.

So looking for extended brake lines I rang (in Nowra); brake pro, who said they don’t make them, Enzed, who said the same. Rang Enzed in Wollongong (Unanderra), don’t make them, Pirtek Unanderra, don’t make them. Pirtek at least put me onto brake pro in Wollongong, Rang them and they said yes but wouldn’t put any sort of price on it for me, eventually narrowed it down to under $100 a line. . . . maybe. Well I re-read this post and decided Dapto pick-a-part wreckers were the go. This worked out well for the front's.

Image top one is stock Sierra, Middle is Mitsubishi lancer, bottom is Hyundai Excel.

All have the right fittings but as you can see the Hyundai is ridiculously long! after an hour searching (Daihatsu and Nissan use "inward" flared fittings? I know that’s a contradiction) and Holden use something completely different. I found Mitsubishi use the same as Suzuki (not surprising really) and in fact the front brake lines on lancers, Magna’s and some little two door thingy from 93 through to 98 (I would be so bold as to suggest the whole 1990's?) all had exactly the same front's, pictured in the middle above.

Sooooooo there are two slight differences though between sierra and lancer.

basically is just a little sloppy in the bracket, and I needed to bend the sliding "keeper" (the springy piece of metal that slides in and out to hold the brake line solid against the bracket) a little to hold it solid again.

Well! the fronts sorted, half an hour of searching though and I threw the towel in for the rear. Brake pro here I come.

Got to Brake pro Wollongong (1hr drive from Nowra) for them to look through there book and tell me a Suzuki sierra doesn’t have any brake specifications listed, so they cant do it. They did however put me on to Brake smart on the other side of Wollongong who made it up for me for me.

So moral of the story is not many places are making brake lines any more.

Questions/homework for the audience: does anyone know of some other cars that have the ideal length for a Sierra with 2 in suspension lift? Next time you in the wreckers have a look around :D

Many cars will have the same lines, there arent many types of fittings used on brake lines in cars. Looks like Just a banjo on one end, and an inverted flare on the other end.

I wouldnt stuff around using others cars brake lines. Just go to a good brake specialist and they will whip them up in no time in whatever length you want. Ive used these 2 mobs:

bayside hose and fittings, in cleveland south side of brisi.

Both places made me some ADR approved clear plastic coated braided lines for my brakes as well as my hydraulic clutch in my old car. pretty cheap too, like $60 each for the brake lines if i recall correctly. certainly wasnt $100 each.

That place in cleveland has a lot of usefull fittings for fuel stuff as well, and they will braid things too (i got a fitting braided into a surge tank by them at some stage)
