Im looking to buy some shocks to fit up to a lwb sierra running no lift and 33x10.5 tyres i dont want single wall construction shock i.e hiace i will make mounts to suit the shocks, so length isnt what Im Here to discuss. Rather shocks that are valved to suit.....ish... i was thinking something to suit a yj jeep may be suitable and would offer heaps of brand options and lengths Im after real world experiences with shocks on sierras... I'm running some Koni 80 series shocks under little foot. These are rebound adjustable oil filled shocks valved nice and soft. So far the nicest riding shocks I've used on a leaf sprung sierra |

Im pretty sure ajsr on here runs the doetsch tech ones available from low range offroad which is a bit different to what alot of other people run. available in a range of lengths and are supposed to be quite soft. As a quick aside, JrZook, what sort of price were your Koni's and do you know where i can find a datasheet with lengths etc? |

Koni's are suprisingly affordable. I had a set of commodore shocks re valved for the rear of my vitara and it cost me $400 all up. Fully rebuildable and rebound adjustable oil filled. |

Not sure where you can find a datasheet with lengths etc. I just went into GSA suspensions in Brizzy and scratched their brains. |

I run the doetsch shocks and I like them. Pretty cheap and they have been in for three years and still have no surface rust. I wish my efs spring packs wernt hard as rocks so I could a bit mor shock absorbing from them. |

Can't go past Koni and Rancho.. IMO the 2 greatest generic shock brands. |

I have a pair of 12 and 10" travel shocks sitting next to me...haven't used mine yet and won't be used with leafs(wrong valving), but g-wagon has/is using them in his car and has used them in other cars to, and seems to like them...maybe he can comment on how they go with leafs? I think the trolley tug is running these with leafs? |

I now have Doetsch Tech shocks from LRO and they are possibly slightly better than the Ultimas/Rancho5000s I had before, or its just the placebo effect  . But they didn't dramatically change the ride. Maybe i should have spent a bit more for the Bilsteins  , an ever better placebo!FYI dudes talking about EFS springs - I also have EFS rears all round but need the load leafs in the back, I twisted/flattened 2 drivers side springs without them :/. |

Make sure whatever shock you end up settling on is adjustable, then you have sooooo much more control and options in your ride. I run AVO adjustables from JB on my Jimby and although pretty pricey I reckon worth every cent. You will be surprised at just how much difference adjustables make and how often you change the settings according to your driving conditions. At first I thought pffft I'll never get my lazy ass out of the seat and change settings! How wrong I was!!! I have my preferred street and offroad settings. |

5125 Bilsteins with soft valving seem very good. They are monotube, but the wall thickness is very heavy and I understand the bodies are cro-mo. Also, as they are designed to me mounted upside down, the body is up away from the axle so is less likely to be damaged. No the trolley tug is running 5150's with coils. We have a member running 5125's on leaves and it seems pretty soft. He has laid his rears over a fair bit and gets a bit of hop, but it's also a SWB running Q78's at 2 PSI some there is a fair bit of tyre bounce. Steve. |
