Hi i have a suzuki vitera 1993 and i took the gear box out to fix some leaks and notised there is oil in the gearshift lever case should there be oil there or not i have drained the box and the oil is still there Thanks Peter
I'm inclined to say it's not normal, however, it's also not unusual - the Vitara shift is on an extension which does not have oil circulating through it, but becaused it is not sealed, oil may make it's way in, among other reasons, the breather is a part of the shift extension.
If it's a large quantity, someone may have attempted to fill the transmission through the shift extension - in my opinion it's unlikely to cause any problems, but i I would wipe it out with a rag and use a multi-purpose grease to lube the shift seat & cup when reassembling.
