The mount stays under the tower, not on top.
It is likely to tear out on rough tracks.

You need to pack washers or similar between the mount and the strut tower/car
So it takes the strain off. ( To the level of the lip. )

And use good washers on top,
bolting thru from bottom,
or vica versa

Sorry, im a noob, so you mean that I need to put that big sort of washer thing I have now on top under the bolt on the bottom? I tried this and it doesnt let the strut through enough to bolt it up. So do I just pack washers under the new bottom side and leave the top as is?

the actual strut mount has to be fitted from the underside as per normal.

the cupped washer needs to be fitted first, then the strut top (flipped), then the flat hex nut with the D shaped hole on to the strut, then the nyloc nut

the concave shape in the flat hex nut needs to be facing up like a "U" can't really tell in the pics but it looks like it points down & it's not giving you much thread length.

^^^ what's stopping the strut from punching through the rubber & how did you do up the centre strut nut? 8O

should look exactly like this apart from the obvious flipped mount.

I have the hex shaped washer on the underside.
Was unable to turn the actual rubber bit over,
so figured matching the rubber shape to the washer shape made sort of sense.

One day will get strut spacers instead, less fiddly.

ahhh cool, at least you have something to stop it coming through the bonnet. 8O

the rubber bit is part of the strut top, it gets turned over when you do the strut top flip. i've never done it, but mocked it up the other weekend when i was building my front end up all other bits go back on as per my pics. :?

I had to think on that for ages,
before deciding to flip the washers as well,
can't really remember exactly how I made the dceision.

But punch thru was considered in decision makings.

This is why I never say right or wrong, just what I did and why

at least with the flat hex nut on top in the original location you can put the whole assembly in a vice & torque up the centre strut nut without fear of damaging the rubber insert of the strut top.

I've decided I like your way better,
but too late now,
hex washers have been drilled out.

I think I was worried about the hex washer being too small,
and pulling thru the rubber on down stroke,
but I now doubt that.

May start with new tops and a spacer next time they come off.

yeah that hex had a flat on it for a reason, it's so you can get the strut nut to torque up without having to somehow work out how to stop the shaft spinning in the strut.
