| Post subject: | Steal Stopper Alarm - How to disconnect/turn off????? |
Hi - I just got a Vitara and it has a Steal Stopper Alarm system installed in it - The light on the dash just flashes 3 times then pauses then flashes again which from the manual is Valet mode but when I try to turn the dam thing off with the key it seems to have no effect - I just want to turn it off altogether or disconnect but there is no wiring diagram in the book - Any ideas? |

I just fully disconnected an alarm system off my vit. If you find the main control box under the dash you can follow each wire to each point it makes contact with on the original vit harness. I found 2 wires that were cut and joined into the alarm, The rest were stripped in a section and piggybacked onto the original wire My alarm was coloured wiring, so it made it easy to follow each one as the colours were bright and new. Mine also had cable ties which also said to me, someone else has been here so must be part of the alarm I googled images and found a wiring diagram for my make of alarm. It probably took 20mins to pull it all out! Make sure you get all the wires off, and reconnect the ones that have been cut |

Sorry been trying to find more. Most people refer to their book...Which you dont have wiring in! I would suggest pull it out of the dash, and have a look where the wires go, Or try pulling out the fuse/ pull off the brain like the links and see if it works |

Thanks for the try BlueSuzy - The only bit I can find so far is the horn under the bonnet which the key fits in but it seems to do nothing when turned onto on/off/test just the flashing light on the dash - Someone in the past gave up I think as it has had tape over it at sometime. What I am concerned about is that it is faulty and it may go total and lock me out when I need the car or flatten the battery when I don't use the car. |

When i 1st got the vit, The alarm was very tempermental and would go off within 5sec of opening the door. I cut the siren to shut it up. That didnt work, battery must be in the siren for backup. It had a special key, it would move in 3 positions, normal noise, different noise, and no noise The car still started fine after this. Pull it all out. High theft in your area? |

The key on the horn usually isn't to turn the alarm off, but to turn the horn off. The alarm should still do it job, but when triggered there will be no horn. Follow the wires. |

The steel mate alarm (not sure if its the same) valet turn off is... When ACC on press the unlock button once, LED indicator will flame out and the siren will chirp twice to indicate the system is in normal alarm mode. |

Through the 90's people went car alarm crazy and many of the companies no longer exist, only a select few. As Bluesuzy said if you want to get rid of it its just a matter of tracing the wires back, some alarms are a pain as they use all black wiring. Wires that are piggybacked on can be cut and others will have to be soldered back together, depending on the alarm and quality of install this could take a little or a long time. |

There is no remote with this one. Yes I am going to start tracing it today and rip the dam thing out. |

Well I tracked the wires through the Firewall, under the dash, across towards the centre console and then into a great bunch of spaghetti so I think I will put some new tape over the bloody flashing light and put a small solar panel on to overcome the battery drain while its standing idle. Hows that for a slack bastard |
