My ARB "locker only" compressor has decided not to work  There is power to all switches and the compressor itself. When I switch it on, I can hear a very faint electric motor sound. It's been mounted under the bonnet since mid 2008. It may have copped a fair amount of water on my last big trip to the West coast of Tassie. Can they be repaired or rebuilt? Or do I have to cough up for a new one? |

I'm sure replacement parts are available from ARB - might not be worth it though if it's had water through it - i.e by the time you had to replace the motor, you might as well buy a new one. Steve. |

That's what I was thinking. Might be time to upgrade to a bigger one anyway. Have you ever had one apart? Will it be obvious if it is rooted? |

You'll need to pull it down. If the motor is running but it's not pumping air then maybe something has come adrift and it might be an easy fix. I pulled an ancient one apart a while ago and the bore was completely rooted.... the motor had come loose and the whole thing went in the bin. I guess it depends on what you find. They're not very mechanically complex. Steve If you have the budget and plan an upgrade, look at the twin piston compressor. Golly, they are quick. |

Steve. What Gwanensteve said (Geez thats a mouth full!) Ok, i work for ARB and was thinking of doing the same thing with my mates submerged compressor that i wanted. It IS alot more painless and less time consuming if you just buy the compressor new. PLUS, if you do get the Twin compressor (bearing in mind i t would still fit where the original comressor was) you may be able to get away with using the original wiring too. |

They can easily be rebuilt, ARB can get any of the parts you need |

I can't help but wonder if there's a typo in there - I haven't seen the new twin compressor myself, but from the pictures it's almost twice the size and I believe has double the current draw. |

yeah i agree with fordem there. I rekon upgrade to the next one up. that has the small "manifold" for the lockers. then you can get an air-up kit for it also. Screw the twin compressor... overkill |

Well, I finally got around to stripping down the compressor. As suspected, it was full of mud and the main crank thingo was seized. The air reservoir also had a whole lot of white gunk in it. Anyway, I cleaned it all out, freed up the crank and piston, and now she's running like new  Saved myself a whole lot of money, because I probably would have said f*#% it, and bought the big twin compressor
