Bigrig and myself are both running the exedy h/d. Considering I've driven a whole 500m I can't comment on the durability of it at this stage.

Even the standard clutch should last a hell of a lot longer than a year though, especially considering your tyre size is only a smidge bigger than factory. Are you riding it too hard when starting in soft sand etc? Or slipping it in high range when you should probably be in low?

Yes it should last longer than it did... havnt been in sand for 8months... i prefer low range when off roading, gives me more control/options... i am a bit of a hoon, and drive my GV like a sports car, so maybe it just doesnt like my hoon driving style, lol... :lol:

Mate has killed 3 clutches in his V8 hilux due to wrong assembly. If too much force is applied to pressure plate on a diagonal it can fracture the center.

I fitted a Clutch Industries HD clutch to the blue car when I did the rear main seal. I would fit one again to the silver one if need be. Probably made the same place as excedy but you just have to wait for the pink to be painted on

A year outta a clutch that's nuts!!! Either you must love slipping/smoking that clutch up or it was dodgy. What did the throwout bearing look like. Wonder if that was sticking to the nose cone and not allowing full engagement.

The flywheel should ALWAYS be machined when replacing a clutch. Maybe it still had machining marks on it, but the surface could have been uneven, causing the clutch to fail.

I had my standard clutch replaced last year, due to slipping... its been slipping again recently, and gradually getting worse... went 4wheelin today, and it looks like i have killed my clutch now, when accelerating, it slips, when cruising on h'way, the revs were going up and down, as it slipped and grabbed, sounded a bit like an auto changing up and down, haha, and when i got home, could definitely smell hot clutch... so, it looks like i will have to get a better Heavy Duty Clutch, as i dont want to be replacing my clutch every year, sooo, to my questions... What is a good make of Heavy Duty Clutch for my 01 GV ? Does anyone have one fitted, and how does it go, how do you find it ? Are there pro's and con's having a Heavy Duty Clutch ? Thanks

Just spoke to Suzistore, they can do a Clutch Industries HD one for $350, or an Exedy HD for $395... anyone know which is the better one to get ?

They can get the Clutch Industries HD one in this arvo, i will have to wait 2 to 3 days for the Exedy... i have some 4.8:1 diff ratio's that would be a perfect swap to counter act the larger tyres. front one would need building up into your steel diff.

The clutch cylinder was leaking when i got my clutch done last year, it was all fixed up, with new parts... have to let the pedal 2/3rds of its complete travel to engage clutch... gravity_powered wrote: Beware of the Excedy. Well, i am impressed with my new pink bits... Got my new Exedy HD clutch fitted today, it doesnt like to be let out to very slowly, as it shudders bit, which is an idiosyncrasy of the Exedy, but it doesnt shudder at all with me, just grabs and and off we go, hold on to your hat, hehe ... Yes, the old clutch was buggered, 3/4 of the fingers/fins on the clutch were straight, the other 1/3rd were bowed out, making the clutch slip... they could see it had been slipping alot... they said it was weird, and couldnt explain why 1/3rd of the fingers/fins, were bowed out, only saying it must have gotten very hot... ah well, its all good now...

Yes it is nuts... must have been faulty... Nope neither slipping or smoking the clutch... my money is on the clutch being dodgy/faulty... Throw out bearing was fine, had everything replaced last year, even the fly wheel still had the machining marks on it, so didnt need machining... in fact everything was fine, it was just the clutch that was buggered... the big test will be in the sand at Xmas, when its under the most strain, so will see how it goes then...

Yep i agree, and thats what Suzistore said, they took it to get machined, they checked it out, and said it was still perfect, so its less cost to me... its still a mystery why the clutch failed, put it down to a dud... or bots...
