I have a miss in a maruti which I have at a farm so here is what I have found so far.

Pulled the spark plug leads off one at a time and no2 didn’t make any difference to the sound of the engine so I checked the plug had spark and it did, I then swapped the plugs over between no1 and no2 and the problem moved to the no1 cylinder so I thought it has to be the plug braking down. I still used it a couple of times and when I left for home I pulled the rotor and battery out (hopefully this might stop it from being stolen) and underside of the bonnet was covered in oil comming from the oil cap. Is this from the plug not working correctly or have I something else major stuffed? I am going back out in a couple of weeks and would like some ideas to try while I am out there. I have already purchased new plugs, leads and rotor to try but I now think it might be a valve or even the timing belt is a tooth out or something (when I purchased the car it appeared to have a new head gasket so the previous owner may have tryed to fix the problem or fixed the head before and got the timing wrong!) any help would be appreciated.

From your post assume engine is 1 litre, running ok apart from miss due to one cyl not firing.
ie no strange rattles or really rough as in coughing and splattring just trying to idle.

Check if the hose beside the oil cap is not blocked, blow and suck through it.

The other cause is a missing (or bad seal) on oil dip stick, it's sort of beside oil cap on drivers side.
Makes a mess like its coming from cap, but if look from below, oil is on underside of intake manifold too.
Oil mess could be old too, clean it up and run engine again.

Check for oil in radaitor or bubles or excessive coolant leaking out from overflowing bottle. (head or gasket issues)

The leads and plugs will fix the miss unless head has other issues.

Could be timing belt or burnt valve, but this is unlikely cause as miss moved from cylinnder 2 to 1
when you swaped plugs.

PS did you just get the car? Has it ever run OK for you ?

yep its the 1 ltr, car was unroad worthy and was purchased for a property so i never got to give it a good run only in the back yard and i think it nwas like that when i got it, just seamed really doey but its so rough and noisy in the cab it was hard to notice until i could wind it out in a paddock. i put a new radiator in and there are no bubbles or anything, engine sound good appart from the miss and idles fine. the oil is new as it wasn't there the day before, i will check this all out when i go back out in a couple of weeks, thats part of my problem its on a property 5hrs away so i am trying to work out what i need to take out with me to fix it.

sounds like a dead plug, ur oil cap not done up properly or the seal has gone on it. check ur timing clean the carbs, valve clearances, check the points and dizzy cap, that sorta thing. I know it sound repetive from what the others say but doing those things can eliminate a lot of problems. Always worked for me doing those basics. look forward to seeing some pics :)

Normal for zook espcially if it's had a hard working life, but just in case yours not normal, after U fix engine check
body/cab are still sitting on all its rubber insulators and the frame brackets not broken off or cracked.
Check if exhaust side engine mount and rear gearbox mount is broken.

8O tray designed for hunting or something? love maruti's (have one myself) but im not a fan of that at all...

its set up for hunting and is just a bush basher thats left out at the farm in the weather. it had been in a bad crash at one stage and the chassis had been snapped in 3 places and weled up then bogged and painted over so you couldn't see it. purchased it off here knowing the chassis was stuffed so i just welded some fish plates on it to stop it from breaking.
