If you have to ask questions on doing a rear main I'd suggest you get help of a mechanic. That way you get a warranty with all work done. Otherwise best bang for buck go to supercheap and buy a Sierra manual, a trolley jack, couple of axle stands, a good socket and spanner set, a good breaker bar. Study, study, study the manual. It's actually a really easy job for someone who is mechanically mInded. But that book gives u step by step procedure and worth every cent you pay. Keep it under your seat so if you ever break down just have a skim through the manual!

Just make sure you get someone else under there with ya. I can quite easily pull out a box but putting it back in normally takes 2 people. Once she is ready to come free. Remove the extractors or exhaust manifold of the engine.Leave one bolt through the bellhousing. Lightly jack the front of the engine up with a block of timber under ur sump. This aids in removal of the box. Get ur 2nd person to look in the engine bay for any taught wires/hoses etc.

Being a beginner I strongly suggest you get someone to help you just manipulating the box out and in. Also a 2nd person makes a great tool chucker. Nothing worse when a tool is out of reach. The 1st thing you should do when under the car is make sure it's chocked very well. Chock every wheel if you want!!
