hi i just did a compresiong test on my f10a in my sierra. i duno what the readings are ment to be but mie were 145, 145, 135, 125 psi. im just wanting to compair to standard f10a readings |

192psi with a service limit of 170psi and no more then 14psi between cylinders. |

hmm if its 190 psi mine is ever so slightly lower than what it should be. i just took my cylinder head off to chuck a vrs kit through her and the head gasket seemed ok from what i could make out of it no visiabe holes where it could be leaking but the gasket was very soft and had rust around the cylinder rings (on the gasket) with traces of coolant and the intake manifold had some coolant in it. now its got me in a panic and im gonna take it done to a reco joint to get them to do a check over it. fingers crossed |

compresiong drops due to worn rings, ( hence why they are called compression rings) and sometimes you will get a drop through leaky valves. You can have worn out compression ring and still not be burning much oil. Normally you test compresson by all plugs out and check readings. Then pour some oil in the spark plug holes then check again to look for the diffenece (there is a r in there somewhere so I will put it here R ) |

i took the head to get it looked at see what the guy thinks about it $150 for tested machined and new valve stem seals put in. i put new crank/camshaft seals in it new timing belt going in new $240 of parts plus the machineing |

im only getting it going again its only gonna be this way for about a year then engine out full rebuild and resto on the car |

No amount of headwork is going to fix low compression from stuffed rings. |

i got a call from my engine guy and he said my heads warped pretty badly and making the camshaft hard to turn but he said he could get it fixed which he said it would be a full recon and would be $350. if thats the case it explains a few things about why it was running how it was |

Well the guy at work said while its mostly apart I should get the bottom end rebuilt they know a guy who can do rebuilds for a decent price. So I might give the guy a call and get a quote and bite the bullet and just get it done now. It would only be getting pulled apart in a year anyways |
